Anxiety and Depression are on opposite sides of the same coin of mental health. With both so directly connected it is no wonder many people, especially neurodivergent folks, have both.

Life is a beautiful thing. If you asked ten people what makes life beautiful, you'd probably get ten different answers. In a way, the subjectiveness of life is beautiful, too.

Today is Making Life Beautiful Day. Step one is to ask yourself what makes your life beautiful, personally. Next, add a little more. Paint something. Go buy a new plant for the garden. Make your kids laugh till they fall over. If you're feeling ambitious, do a bunch of beautiful things.

What makes your life beautiful?

Best friends are, well, the best! Beyond regular friendship where you get together and have fun every once in a while, best friends are pillars of your life. Of course, you chat and hang out a lot, but it goes deeper than that. They reinforce your habits and hobbies. They support you through hard times. They share your life.

As you may have guessed, today is National Best Friends Day. Today is a time to reflect on how your appreciate your best friends, then let them know how you feel. Best friends are a rare treasure, so treasure them.

Happy World Caring Day! It sure is nice to be cared about. Not just saying "Hi, how are you?", but real care. Digging into how your life is going, treating you to a meal, helping you move furniture into your new apartment, that kind of thing. Many people also find caring for others to be quite enjoyable.

In a fast-paced world full of competition, caring people are precious. So today, show your appreciation for all the caring people in your life by taking care of them. Bake cookies, walk their dog, or just give 'em a phone call. They're worth it.

A lot of people are on the fence for quite a while before getting therapy. They wonder if they're "bad enough" to get professional help, ponder what the "right thing" to say is, or fear being judged. Real therapy is much gentler than they expect.

This week's blog is about what therapy really looks like in action. Come check it out!

Historians have recorded a steady improvement of quality of life with every new generation. Which is great news, because that means things will get better.

Today is Audacity to Hope Day. Humanity's perseverance, ingenuity, and hope for better times has driven us onwards and upwards for millennia. No matter how bad things get, hope is one thing that can never be taken or destroyed. Everyone has hopes and dreams, from simple stuff like good weather to crazy long-shots like winning the Olympics. Even if it seems silly or unlikely, your hopes are your own. So dream on.

Do you know what the most important difference is between hugely successful corporations and short-lived startups? You might think it has something to do with marketing or financial backing, but that's not it. Their professional wellness programs are top of the industry.

What is professional wellness, you ask? This month is professional wellness month, so now is a great time to talk about it! Professional wellness is how a workplace creates a healthy environment for its workers, keeping them happy and healthy. Not only does this make the office a lot more pleasant place to be, it also improves productivity long-term.

There are a lot of great ways to encourage professional wellness. Limiting overtime use and working regular breaks into the schedule is a good way to keep workers energized. Some offices invest in comfortable furnishings and beautiful decorations so the workplace doesn't look like a dungeon. Others have robust policies and training to encourage friendly professionalism.

How does your workplace encourage professional wellness?

Today is World Narcissistic Abuse Awareness Day. Narcissistic abuse is defined as abuse from someone with narcissistic personality disorder, dehumanizing and controlling the victim to feed the abuser's sense of ego.

Common signs of narcissistic abuse include:

Devaluation - abuser reduces your self esteem, often in combination with love-bombing
Blame shifting - the abuser is never at fault, you are
Withholding affection - abuser only shows affection if you do as they command
Isolation - abuser separates you from friends and family
Financial abuse - abuser limits your access to money or other practical resources

If you or someone you know is the victim of narcissistic abuse, the best course of action is usually to set firm boundaries with the abuser, limit contact, and strengthen the victim's support network. When it comes time to recover and heal, extensive self-care and confidence building is often required. It's a long road, but therapy helps.
