Welcome to all new followers! 💛

I’m so glad you’re here. I’m an Early Intervention Occupational Therapist and the owner of Achieving Milestones, where I have a special passion for helping children through play based therapy including sensory integration, and reflex integration.

But what does that really mean? ✨

🫶🏼 Sensory Processing is how the brain receives and responds to information from the world around us! sounds, movement, touch, textures, body awareness, and more. Some children may seek out sensory input, while others may feel overwhelmed by it.

🤸‍♀️ Sensory Integration focuses on helping the nervous system better organize and process that sensory information so children can feel more regulated, confident, and successful in everyday activities like play, learning, feeding, sleep, and social interaction.

👶 Reflex Integration addresses primitive reflexes automatic movement patterns babies are born with that are meant to naturally integrate as they grow. When retained, these reflexes can sometimes impact attention, emotional regulation, coordination, balance, posture, feeding, handwriting, and more.

Some primitive reflexes include:
Moro Reflex (“startle” reflex)
ATNR (Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex)
STNR (Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex)
TLR (Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex)
Palmar Reflex
Spinal Galant Reflex

At Achieving Milestones, I strive to look at the whole child and support development through connection, play, movement, and nervous system regulation. 🌿

Thank you for being here and following along on this journey. I’m excited to continue sharing education, tips, and ways to support your little ones as they grow and thrive! 🥰

🐰🌸 Easter Sensory Bin = Learning Through Play! 🌸🐰

An Easter sensory bin is more than just fun! it’s a powerful way to support your child’s development through hands-on play! 🙌🏼

✨ Tactile Exploration
Scooping, pouring, digging, and touching different textures helps build sensory processing skills and body awareness. Whether it’s rice, beans, grass, or pom-poms, these experiences help children learn how their bodies interact with the world.

✨ Messy Play (With or Without Boundaries!)
Letting kids get messy builds creativity, confidence, and problem-solving skills. You can allow full exploration—or set simple boundaries like “the bin stays on the mat.” Both approaches teach self-regulation and respect for space.

✨ Hidden Treasure = Purposeful Play
Not sure what to do with the bin? Hide small toys or treats inside! Searching encourages attention, perseverance, and curiosity, perfect for kids who need a little direction to get started.

🌼 Bonus: Filling, dumping, matching, and sorting eggs also support early problem-solving and organization skills.

Sensory play doesn’t have to be perfect!! it just has to be meaningful. A little mess today builds big skills for tomorrow! 💛

🚼 Let’s talk about crawling — and why it still matters.

Crawling plays a CRITICAL role in early development:

✨ Builds communication between both sides of the brain

💪 Strengthens the core, shoulders, and hands

👀 Supports visual tracking and eye coordination

🧠 Helps integrate primitive reflexes !!!!

🧭 Lays the foundation for walking, posture, and fine motor skills

Milestones are meant to guide development, not rush it. 🙌🏼✨

Just because crawling was removed from the list from CDC doesn’t mean it’s no longer important. Like WOW how can they even….. 🤯

ACTIVITIES TO TRY 🎉
— Place favorite toys just out of reach to motivate movement
— Create a pillow or couch-cushion obstacle course to move over
— Use tunnels, pop-up tents, or cardboard boxes
— Get down on the floor and crawl together
— Roll a ball slowly away and encourage baby to chase it for endurance

Fun fact: you actually want your baby to crawl for 2-3 months before walking, crazy right! 😆

Anyone else feel overwhelmed after Christmas? 🎄

Between my child and me, the amount of stuff can feel like a lot. So many amazing, thoughtful gifts… but also a reminder that more toys doesn’t always mean more play. 🧸 🛻

One thing that’s been a game changer in our home & for many of my clients is toy rotation and intentional presentation. 🎊 Instead of having everything out at once, we rotate a small selection of toys every few weeks and set them up in a simple, inviting way.

✨ Fewer toys = deeper play
✨ Less overwhelm for kids (and parents)
✨ Better focus, creativity, and independence
✨ Toys feel “new” again without buying more

If your child seems overstimulated or jumps from toy to toy, it’s not a behavior issue it’s often an environment issue. A calm, organized play space helps regulate their nervous system and supports meaningful play.

You don’t have to get rid of the gifts. Just give them space to shine 🤍

A simple shelf assists with presentation and baskets can be for those little cars/trucks or dolls we step on nonstop ✨😋
