The “why did I react like that” moment has an answer.
It’s not you being “too sensitive” or “overreacting.”

It’s a younger version of you getting activated by something that felt familiar:
A tone of voice.
A look.
Someone going quiet.
Being dismissed.
Being too much.
Not being enough.
Your nervous system doesn’t have a calendar.
It doesn’t know the difference between then and now.
So when something in the present moment rhymes with something from the past, it responds like it’s still back there.
Asking “how old do I feel right now?” isn’t just a cute exercise.
It’s a way of creating just enough distance between the reaction and the response to realize that this moment isn’t that moment.
And that’s actually where EMDR starts.
Going back to the original moment, processing it at the root, so it stops bleeding into the present. 💜
