The Foundation is organized to honor and preserve the memory of long-time TRFSC skating coach and mentor Nancy Reitan Stafne to focus on supporting activities that honor her commitment to, and love of skating. The Foundation will also, in its fundraising efforts, strive to create awareness for colon cancer, a disease Nancy fought with amazing strength, courage and dignity. The Fancy Nancy Memorial
Foundation will provide opportunities through scholarships that will enable the recipients to participate in activities that honor Nancy Reitan Stafne enduring love and commitment to the world of figure skating. That was Fancy Nancy's motto during her 2 1/2 year fight against stage IV colon cancer. On August 8, 2015 we lost our beloved Fancy Nancy. We are heartbroken that she has passed away, but find comfort in the fact that she is no longer suffering and in pain. She helped us redefine our definition of what a "bad" day meant. During her fight against cancer, she endured over 40 rounds of chemotherapy, countless medical appointments, and many challenging days. In spite of this, she ALWAYS had a smile on her face and was truly happy to be coaching figure skating at the rink. Fancy Nancy was a wonderful skating coach, friend and a positive role model to our skaters. Fancy Nancy's passion for skating was remarkable. Every time one of her skaters got on the ice with her; they received a more important lesson in life, love and sheer determination then skating. It's not the jumps, spins, or programs that Nancy taught her skaters that we miss the most; it is the pure love she gave to all of her skaters. We will forever miss her infectious smile and pizzaz not only at the rink, but everywhere else. The Fancy Nancy Memorial Foundation mission is to promote Fancy Nancy's love for figure skating. Please consider donating financially, as well as your time, to help remember Fancy Nancy. We will forever be "Fancy's Fighters"! Donate at: https://www.gofundme.com/FancyNancyMemFund
