Ever stumbled across a yoga teacher’s bio that reads like this:
“Maryanne is certified in Ashtanga yoga, Bikram yoga, Dharma yoga, Iyengar yoga, Pre-Natal yoga, Restorative yoga, Rocket yoga, and Svaroopa yoga. She’s also a certified astrologer, reiki master, and tarot card reader.”
Sidebar: Maryanne must be pretty tired.
But seriously, would you trust a cardiologist who was also a dermatologist, oncologist, gastroenterologist, and orthopedist?
Not only would I not trust them, I’d wonder what they were overcompensating for by spreading themselves so thin.
I’d wonder if they really had faith in their healing craft or if they were shopping around because they hadn’t truly found something they believed in yet.
If your bio reads like a laundry list of the certification programs*, you’re missing out on vital component #1 that all successful yoga teachers need, which is knowing your niche.
*Most people become certificate hoarders because they’re trying to feel “good enough,” but that’s a topic for another day.
If you spread yourself too many directions, you’r e never going to get beneath the surface in any of them. You become a perpetual dabbler rather than an expert.
Or, as they say in Texas, “you can’t ride two horses with one ass.”
Simultaneously, you don’t want to label yourself as a plain old yoga teacher because there are millions of those on the planet and you want to stand out from the crowd in order to truly be successful.
If you are serious about earning a living as a yoga teacher, it’s time to get serious about working within your niche and releasing everything else.
If you’re REALLY committed, you’ll be in my email or DMs today saying something to the effect of, “Sara, I want to crush it in my niche but I don’t even know where to start!”. Claim one of the 2 final coaching spots for yourself before they’re gone for good .
If you get tangled up in all the reasons you can’t do it before you click the icon for DMs, this work isn’t for you.
My clients are smart, strategic thinkers, not folks who’d rather remain in their victimhood waiting for their partner/colleague/parents to bail them out (again).
You’re one of those smart, strategic thinkers, right?
I thought so.
Let’s do this.
