Miss USA is a Foster Parent!👑💖

Virginia’s own Justus Kelley was just crowned Miss USA 2026, making history as the first married woman and mother to earn the title- but there’s another part of her story that we absolutely LOVE:

She and her husband are licensed foster parents🥹💓

She’s also the founder of Foster Footprints, a nonprofit supporting children in foster care, and she used her national platform to bring attention to a cause that means so much to us at StepStone.

Her story is such a beautiful reminder that foster parents come from all walks of life. They are working professionals. They are married and single. They are parents and people who have never parented before. They are ordinary people willing to open their homes and become part of something extraordinary.

And right here in Hampton Roads, children and teens still need families willing to say yes.

🌟Foster Parent of the Month: Ms. Casper🌟

This month, we are honored to recognize Keyonna Casper as our Foster Parent of the Month!💙

Since welcoming her very first foster placement in April, Keyonna has been caring for two brothers and has done an incredible job learning, adapting, and advocating for their individual needs.

As a single, working mom, Keyonna has had a lot on her plate. With the support of her team, she has worked through the many moving pieces of foster care- from coordinating services and finding childcare to advocating for the boys’ treatment, support, and individual needs. Through it all, she has continued to show up with patience, love, and dedication.

What stands out most is Keyonna’s commitment to making sure these boys have what they need to thrive. She has been willing to ask questions, seek resources, lean on her support system, and continue advocating for them every step of the way.

Since welcoming her very first foster placement in April, Keyonna has embraced the unique journey of foster parenting with incredible dedication, endurance, and heart. She has created a home where these brothers can experience love, stability, consistency, and normalcy- a place where they can simply be kids, play, have fun, and enjoy the structure and routine they need to thrive. Keyonna has advocated for their needs, supported their success, and intentionally created space for the boys to build meaningful attachments with her and her family.💙

Foster parenting takes flexibility, perseverance, compassion, and a whole lot of heart. Keyonna has demonstrated all of these qualities while balancing the responsibilities of being a working mom.

Keyonna, thank you for opening your home and your heart, for advocating for these boys, and for continuing to show up for them every day. We are so proud of you and so grateful for the difference you are making in their lives!

Because we at StepStone of Virginia want to make sure we have homes for each child that needs one, we are currently seeking foster parents from diverse ethnic backgrounds, especially those who speak a language or languages in addition to English. What that means to you is you will have an opportunity to open up your heart and home to a child in need. The real benefit is that you will be able to provide a safe space where a child will feel like they belong and where they can stay connected to their culture while having the stability, care, and love they deserve. Children thrive when they feel understood, connected, and supported in ways that honor who they are.
