People often tell me how strong I am, but the truth is there have been so many moments when I didn’t feel strong at all.
After losing Jaz’Mine, after losing my mom, my grandmother, my sister, and the many others I love, fear became something I carried every day. Fear of another phone call. Fear of another goodbye. Fear of loving deeply and losing again.
The reality is that grief changes you. It teaches you that life can change in a moment, and sometimes that knowledge follows you everywhere.
But I’ve learned that courage isn’t the absence of fear. Courage is continuing to love, continuing to hope, continuing to show up, and continuing to live even when fear is sitting beside you.
Some days I am strong. Some days I am scared. Most days, I am both.
And maybe that’s what healing really looks like.
