In New York State it is illegal for children under 16 to operate an E-Bike or E-Scooter. It’s also illegal to operate them on roadways marked 30mph+, and on sidewalks.

…Yet are so many children in our community have them, and the risk for injury is so high. 💔
Peer pressure isn’t worth the risk.

The significant increase in e-scooter injuries among children in recent years is a reminder that these e-mobility devices are not toys. They can reach speeds that put children at risk for serious head injuries, fractures, and even death, especially when ridden in traffic.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under 16 should not ride or operate e-scooters because they may not yet have the judgment, experience, and skills needed to safely navigate traffic and other roadway hazards.

For older teens who do ride, a properly fitted helmet is essential. Helmets are the most effective way to reduce the risk of serious head injury and should be worn on every ride.

A limited number of free car seats are available for anyone with a defective or expired one.

If you have a teen who has been begging for an E-Bike, this could be a great opportunity to learn more!🚲

As a reminder, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 16 to operate an E-Bike or E-Scooter in NYS.

Additional things to know:

•Roads with speed limits over 30 mph cannot be used by E-Bikes and E-Scooters, unless allowed by local law or ordinance.
•E-Bikes and E-Scooters cannot be operated on sidewalks unless allowed by local law or ordinance.
•E-Bikes and E-Scooters cannot be operated on public lands (like parks and multi-use trails) unless allowed by local law or ordinance.
