šā¤ļø Christmas in July⦠with a little extra heart.
Friday night I had the opportunity to share a poem about something that means so much to meāour hospice volunteer program at Family Care Home Health and Hospice.
Hospice volunteering isnāt about focusing on the end of life. Itās about bringing comfort, companionship, laughter, dignity, and love to someoneās journey. Sometimes the smallest act of kindness becomes the biggest gift.
If youāve ever wondered whether volunteering is for you, I hope youāll take a few minutes to listen. You just might discover that the person whose life is changed the most⦠is your own.
š If youād like to learn more about becoming a hospice volunteer, send me a message or leave a comment. Iād love to tell you all about it.
⨠The poem I shared:
Weāre cooking up some fun tonight, with recipes to try,
And while weāre celebrating Christmas here in July,
Iāve brought a little message that Iād love for you to hear,
About a way to spread some joy throughout the coming year.
Now when you hear the word āhospice,ā donāt let your spirits fall,
It isnāt only sadnessāitās not gloomy after all.
Itās living every moment with as much joy as we can,
Supporting those who need a friend, a helping heart, a hand.
At Family Care Home Health and Hospice, thatās our daily goal:
To bring a little comfort and to lift another soul.
Sometimes itās sharing stories, or a favorite memory told,
Or simply sitting quietly while someoneās hand you hold.
You donāt need special training or a superhero cape,
No fancy skills or secret powers, or muscles in great shape!
If youāre eighteen or older and youāve got a heart thatās kind,
Thereās a place for you with usāyouāll fit in just fine.
And if youāre thinking, āIād be great⦠if only I had time,ā
Our volunteer scheduleās flexibleāthat part is by design!
An hour here, an hour there, whatever you can do,
Weāll gladly make it work because we really value you.
The funny thing with giving is a lesson people find:
You think youāre helping someone else⦠but youāre the one whoās changed inside.
The smiles, the laughs, the grateful heartsātheyāre gifts beyond all measure.
The moments that you share with others become your greatest treasure.
So as you take these Christmas bags and all the treats inside,
Remember that the greatest gifts canāt ever be gift-wrapped with pride.
Theyāre kindness, time, compassion, and a smile thatās warm and trueā
And somewhere thereās a family who could really use⦠you.
So if youād like to learn some more before we say goodnight,
Come chat with meāI promise Iāll keep it short and light.
Because the sweetest recipe Iāve ever come to knowā¦
Is mixing love with kindnessā¦
Wherever you may go. š
