🎄❤️ Christmas in July… with a little extra heart.
Friday night I had the opportunity to share a poem about something that means so much to me—our hospice volunteer program at Family Care Home Health and Hospice.
Hospice volunteering isn’t about focusing on the end of life. It’s about bringing comfort, companionship, laughter, dignity, and love to someone’s journey. Sometimes the smallest act of kindness becomes the biggest gift.
If you’ve ever wondered whether volunteering is for you, I hope you’ll take a few minutes to listen. You just might discover that the person whose life is changed the most… is your own.
💙 If you’d like to learn more about becoming a hospice volunteer, send me a message or leave a comment. I’d love to tell you all about it.
✨ The poem I shared:
We’re cooking up some fun tonight, with recipes to try,
And while we’re celebrating Christmas here in July,
I’ve brought a little message that I’d love for you to hear,
About a way to spread some joy throughout the coming year.
Now when you hear the word “hospice,” don’t let your spirits fall,
It isn’t only sadness—it’s not gloomy after all.
It’s living every moment with as much joy as we can,
Supporting those who need a friend, a helping heart, a hand.
At Family Care Home Health and Hospice, that’s our daily goal:
To bring a little comfort and to lift another soul.
Sometimes it’s sharing stories, or a favorite memory told,
Or simply sitting quietly while someone’s hand you hold.
You don’t need special training or a superhero cape,
No fancy skills or secret powers, or muscles in great shape!
If you’re eighteen or older and you’ve got a heart that’s kind,
There’s a place for you with us—you’ll fit in just fine.
And if you’re thinking, “I’d be great… if only I had time,”
Our volunteer schedule’s flexible—that part is by design!
An hour here, an hour there, whatever you can do,
We’ll gladly make it work because we really value you.
The funny thing with giving is a lesson people find:
You think you’re helping someone else… but you’re the one who’s changed inside.
The smiles, the laughs, the grateful hearts—they’re gifts beyond all measure.
The moments that you share with others become your greatest treasure.
So as you take these Christmas bags and all the treats inside,
Remember that the greatest gifts can’t ever be gift-wrapped with pride.
They’re kindness, time, compassion, and a smile that’s warm and true—
And somewhere there’s a family who could really use… you.
So if you’d like to learn some more before we say goodnight,
Come chat with me—I promise I’ll keep it short and light.
Because the sweetest recipe I’ve ever come to know…
Is mixing love with kindness…
Wherever you may go. đź’™
