As we get ready celebrate Juneteenth. It is important to know the history behind the date.
The Correct Answer: 🕊️ Union troops arrive in Texas
On June 19, 1865—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed—Major General Gordon Granger and Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas. They delivered General Order No. 3, officially delivering the news that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were now free.
Because Texas was the most remote of the slave states, it was the last to receive the news, making June 19th the symbolic date for the total emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.
Thank you to everyone who voted! Juneteenth (combining "June" and "nineteenth") stands as a powerful reminder of the long journey toward freedom, continuous learning, and the ongoing work of building truly inclusive communities and workplaces.
