People have been stretching for gut comfort for centuries.
Ayurveda even had a name for IBS-like gut trouble—Grahani—that dates back 3,500 years.
Ready to give it a try?
Here are three poses that can help reduce symptoms (wait 30 min after eating, and skip these if you’re in the middle of a flare-up).
1️⃣ Cat-cow
2️⃣ Knees-to-chest
3️⃣ Supine twist
What’s happening when you move: The physical act of twisting and folding into different poses gently massages the abdomen, helping to stimulate the movement of waste and gas through the gut. Diaphragmatic breathing (deep belly breathing) also comes into play. Breathing deeply stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping shift the body from a “fight or flight” state to a “rest and digest” state.
