The horses remind us that healing doesn’t always have to be heavy. Sometimes it looks like curiosity, connection, play… and a little bit of horse nonsense🐴

Being present opens the door to growth.

Horses live entirely in the present moment. They don’t carry yesterday or worry about tomorrow. They meet you exactly as you are, right now.

Being present with them allows us to notice the discomfort we’ve been avoiding, the people right in front of us, the ground we’re standing on — and find room to move forward.

Presence is where growth begins.

This week, find a moment to disconnect and just be here. Be curious about what it opens up.

Kids + horses. Meeting each other where they’re at🐴

Horses mirror what a child brings to them. Curiosity meets curiosity, calm meets calm. It’s not something we teach; it’s something that happens naturally when a kid and a 1,200-lb animal simply show up as themselves.

This is the foundation of equine-assisted therapy — connection and trust built one small moment at a time.

There’s something powerful about being witnessed — by a horse, and by each other. Rainbow Herd is designed for authentic connection and building community.

🌈🐴 Introducing Rainbow Herd, therapeutic equine experience made for the LGBTQIA+ community in the Roaring Fork Valley.

This Pride Month, Surmount Counseling and WindWalkers Equine Assisted Learning and Therapy Center are coming together to offer something meaningful for our community. Rainbow Herd is a one-time, experiential group workshop using the Eagala Model of equine-assisted therapy, a structured, evidence-based approach where all work is done on the ground alongside the horses. No riding. No horse experience needed.

Horses are remarkably attuned to human emotion. They respond authentically to who we are in the moment, not who we perform ourselves to be. In that space, something real can happen.

This workshop is designed to support community building, authentic connection, and a sense of belonging — themes that matter deeply, especially during Pride Month.

Excited to share something I’ve been working on this summer with my colleague, Morgan Warth. If you know a child navigating a family transition, this group might be just what they need. 💛

Join us this summer for a supportive 4-session group designed to help children navigate the emotional impact of divorce and separation through therapeutic play, experiential activities, emotional skill-building, and peer connection.

Children often carry big feelings during times of family change — confusion, sadness, worry, anger, or loneliness. Many wonder if what they're feeling is "normal," or if other kids understand.

This group helps children feel less alone.
