The new lesson on supporting clients in addiction recovery through surf therapy is ready! It’s in module 7 of the Sea Love Healing Surf Therapy Training. Addiction treatment is a specialty of mine and very close to my heart so it was fulfilling and meaningful for me to create.

In this clip my obsession with ocean metaphors 🌊🤓 helps explain how relapse prevention techniques can be incorporated into surf therapy. We also learn how four other approaches to addiction treatment can fit into surf therapy.

Ai obviously doesn’t surf and won’t be replacing therapists any time soon😅

After 10 years in the surf therapy field, I was concerned that there was no guidance for new providers on things like ethics, safety, and the difference between a surf lesson and a therapeutic surf session. So I decided to fill that need and created the Sea Love Healing Surf Therapy Training!

If you want to learn how to use surfing to help others, this training is for you! It addresses the different needs of licensed therapists AND other helpers who are interested in this work like coaches, volunteers and surfers who have had personal experiences with healing through surf and want to bring that same feeling to others.

I genuinely want anyone who wants to take this course to be able to. My top priority is that anyone offering any kind of surf healing does so safely and ethically. So if you’re interested in it- DM me to schedule a call and we will find an option that works for you 🌊💜🦋

The Mermaid Pirate!

Most of my friends and clients know that I am an ocean metaphor nerd🌊🤓🌊 I might be taking it too far with this one but I just can’t resist.

The mermaid gracefully enjoys and explores the watery depths. The pirate powerfully navigates and dominates the waves and storms to take the treasure they want.

It’s unfair that society generally is more accepting of women embodying the mermaid energy, and men embodying the pirate energy.

It’s a blessing to have access to both. But a challenge to decide when and how to be more mermaid or pirate.

I personally have been a bit too pirate lately. Too much focus on doing, fixing, achieving. Looking forward to a mermaid fall season, floating singing and exploring the depths🧜‍♀️

I’m excited to introduce Kylie Learakos, Sea Love Healing's new Associate Therapist! She’s passionate about supporting clients through grief, trauma, anxiety, and life transitions. With training in EMDR and a warm, client-centered approach, she embodies our values of authenticity, trauma-informed care, and holistic healing.

Kylie provides in-person and virtual therapy in Carlsbad CA, including nature-based sessions for those who find healing outdoors. She offers sliding-scale rates to make therapy more accessible and is supervised by me, Jessica Ripley, LMFT 127571. 🌊Exciting Update! I'm stoked to announce that I’m now qualified to supervise associate therapists in CA. I can't wait to start contributing to the profession in this new way and guide new therapists on their journey. If you’re an associate therapist who is passionate about a relational approach, experiential therapies or if you’re interested in trauma processing therapies like EMDR or IFS, this could be a great fit.

Yes, I’ve opened a new office in Carlsbad (pictures coming soon!), and I’ll continue seeing clients in Huntington Beach two days per week. The Associate Therapist will be hybrid, based in Carlsbad. While most of the work will be in the office or virtual, I’m of course open to supporting more creative approaches to therapy. And if you’re a surfer, we can even explore surfing supervision sessions!
