Some food allergies can be outgrown, but it depends a lot on the food.

Children are more likely to outgrow allergies to milk and egg while allergies to peanut, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish are more likely to persist.

But here’s the important part: you shouldn’t find out by simply trying the food again at home.

Your allergist can follow your history and allergy testing over time. If things are moving in the right direction, an oral food challenge may be recommended to determine whether the allergy is still present.

And sometimes, that means getting to take a food off the allergy list entirely. 🙌

Wondering whether you or your child may have outgrown a food allergy? It may be time for a reevaluation.

Epinephrine saves lives, but now there’s more than one way to give it. 💚 Auto-injector or nasal spray? Swipe through for the key differences, what parents should know, and why the best option is the one that’s appropriate for your child and that you feel confident using quickly.

And whichever option you choose, carry two doses.

If you asked me what allergy-related products or treatments are actually worth spending money on, this would be my list:

✔️ Epinephrine (EpiPen or equivalent)
The one medication I hope you never need, but could save your life if you do. If you’re at risk for anaphylaxis, don’t leave home without it.

✔️ NeilMed Sinus Rinse
One of the simplest and most effective ways to flush out pollen, dust, mucus, and other irritants. Great for allergies, colds, and chronic sinus symptoms.

✔️ Pressurized Saline Spray
Keeps your nose moisturized, helps clear allergens, and is gentle enough to use every day. A small habit that can make a big difference.

✔️ Environmental Immunotherapy (Allergy Shots or Drops)
Instead of just covering up symptoms, immunotherapy treats the underlying allergy and can provide long-term relief.

✔️ Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) for Food Allergies
For the right patients, OIT can reduce the risk of severe reactions from accidental exposures and provide peace of mind for families.

Not everything marketed for allergies is worth the cost, but these are five things I regularly recommend because they have real evidence behind them.

Thinking about oral immunotherapy? Before getting started, make sure you understand the time commitment, safety plan, treatment goals, costs, and what daily dosing will look like for your family.

These 5 questions can help you decide whether OIT is the right fit.

Allergy testing is only one piece of the puzzle. Results should always be interpreted alongside your symptoms and medical history to determine what is truly clinically relevant.

If your child has a food allergy, there may be more options than simply avoiding the food forever.

At Inspire Allergy & Asthma, we’re proud to offer Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) for children and adults in the Indianapolis area. OIT is a personalized treatment that gradually increases tolerance to a food allergen with the goal of reducing the risk of severe reactions from accidental exposures.

If you’ve been wondering whether OIT is right for your family, we’d love to help you explore your options.

Saline rinses and saline sprays are simple, medication-free ways to help wash away pollen, mucus, and other irritants from the nose. Rinses provide a deeper clean, while sprays are great for quick moisture and everyday use.
