I am deeply saddened that my mentor and friend John F Barnes passed away last week. He changed my life and saved me from a destiny of chronic pain after a back and SI injury. I am beyond grateful for the treatment, skills, and life lessons that I have learned from him. He changed how I practice physical therapy and helped to facilitate the healing journey of my patients, students that Iâve had the honor to assist with teaching, and myself. Since meeting John in 2009 and attending my first myofascial release course I have had the most amazing, freaky, sometimes painful (ie Johnâs elbow in my buttock breaking up scar tissue), scary (facing my fears)and spiritual healing experiences that I could never have imagined as the patient and when treating others. Sometimes the treatment is a structural rebalancing and freeing up of the fascial adhesions in the body and sometimes itâs truly authentic healing of the mind, body, and soul. I strongly recommend his book âHealing Ancient Woundsâ as a roadmap for oneâs own healing journey.
I will forever remember and love John and will miss him deeply. He has inspired, taught, and touched the lives of probably a million therapists around the world who have helped millions of patients. His legacy will continue to grow as his amazing instructors continue to teach and each of his students touches the lives of their patients with the skills of his guiding principles.
