Still taking Tai Chi. It is a great low impact slow movement exercise, moving what ever you have gently . I like it better than PT.
I also use my Hayek negative pressure respirator every day to rest my breathing muscles. I play and teach recorder, which takes no more wind to blow than to talk and just requires more concentration.

Nearly all my activities are fun physical and mental therapy. Life is depressing if you don't find ways to make "must do" things fun.

Today, this space is devoted to inviting polio survivors, their friends and family and professionals working with polio survivors to a Polio Virtual Support Group offered by the March of Dimes Canada.

The March of Dimes Canada is a very special organization. The following is from its statement of “Who We Are” written on its website at www.marchofdimes.ca.

We’ve proven time and again our dedication to addressing the ongoing and urgent needs of people with disabilities, as well as their families and caregivers. Born in the last great public health epidemic, we know that seemingly-impossible goals can be achieved and barriers can be broken. In the 1950s, March of Dimes Canada helped in the global effort to fund a vaccine for polio. We’ve since evolved to become a recognized leader in disability service design and delivery, supporting people at home, work, and in their communities with unparalleled reach and impact.

Now, inspired and guided by our community, we’re expanding our horizons even further. Together with our clients, partners, supporters, and allies, we are working to create communities in which people with disabilities can not only live, but thrive in all they aspire to do.

Thanks to this very special organization, there is a very special presentation on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 by Dianne Wall and Susan Schoenbeck starting at the time reflected below (the start time depends on your time zone, of course).

Dianne Wall, MS Music Therapy, is the author of the popular memoir of her life with Polio and now with Post-Polio Syndrome, Somebody Told Me I Could.

Susan Schoenbeck, MSN, RN Nursing is also the author of books about her inspiring story of her battle with Polio, including the popular Polio Girl.

Together, Dianne Wall and Susan Schoenbeck are presenting with a PowerPoint they have filled with stories and music. Their presentation is titled, Being Gentle With Ourselves / Imperfection: Finding Strength in Stories and Music, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The venue for their presentation is a Polio Virtual Support Group offered by the March of Dimes Canada for polio survivors, their caregivers, and professionals working with polio survivors.

The special registration link with the March of Dimes Canada is available below. The March of Dimes Canada understandably limits registration for this Polio Virtual Support Group to polio survivors, their caregivers and professionals. So, if you are a polio survivor, a caregiver (which I personally think of as a supporter, since I am one), and professionals, here is how to register. The MODC shares the Zoom link by email once a person registers. The link to register is here.

And here is a list provided by MODC of when this Zoom event begins in many time zones:

Negative-pressure ventilation has been studied as a hemodynamic tool in pediatric postoperative cardiac patients. In a widely cited JACC report, NPV improved cardiac output in children after tetralogy of Fallot repair, supporting the concept that negative pressure can assist circulation when the heart is struggling. For pediatric cardiac teams, ventilation strategy matters. Because intrathoracic pressure can influence preload and right-heart filling, the choice of ventilatory approach is an important clinical consideration. BCV’s negative-pressure mechanism provides noninvasive ventilatory support while operating through a different physiologic approach than positive-pressure ventilation. In appropriate patients and at the clinician’s discretion, this may be a useful option when hemodynamic considerations are part of the overall care plan.

PPS usually starts about 20 years after the original infection. It may intensify after a traumatic health event or accident. Years of over use of original damaged pathways break down in efficiency.

As 2025 comes to a close, we are thankful for countless health workers, scientists, volunteers, donors, and more who have continued the fight against polio despite a very challenging year. 2026 will bring its own unique challenges, as each year does, but we remain steadfast in our promise to for good.

As Dr. Jamal Ahmed, WHO director of polio eradication, writes in his end-of-year message, "Polio eradication remains one of the world’s most powerful expressions of collective action for equity, solidarity, and the protection of children."
