A recent class held at the ASCHA range included the topic of choosing the correct firearm. To keep things simple, go to a store to 'feel' what is best for your hand, and then balance the opinions and options you have. There are too many viewpoints otherwise on what is best. Yes, 9mm is THE most common caliber, but there are other calibers to choose from (10mm, .45acp, .32 H&R, .38 Spl, etc.), and MANY other options for a firearm to pick from. We are in a golden age of options for fi****ms (and guitars, for the pluckers reading this...), so one must ideally feel comfortable with what they hold, and then focus on the ability to place shots effectively with quality training and mindset. We love all the options out there; there are just too many cool things to pick from now, so one must either take a chance, or have some guidance with their selection.
Like anyone who enjoys a past time, hobby, or lifestyle, there are always pros/cons to every selection. At Safety-Educators, we have a great mix of brands to help a class along, and we choose to enjoy many different brands for the expression of the 2nd Amendment, and appreciate the options that are available. It's easy to get lost in 'brand passion', but really, just hold a firearm, acquire a mix opinions, and then move forward with your choice if you are new to this world of pew-pew. Many of us have a variety of brands in possession because experience with them makes for analysis, and there are MANY reasons to have a VARIETY of both brands and calibers. But regardless of the brand, making an effective choice, with safe and effective training, makes for a safer person, a better consumer, and a better citizen.
