This EMDRIA Approved, live, online workshop will provide you with an introduction to the treatment of complex developmental trauma and dissociation through the lens of structural dissociation theory and EMDR therapy. I, and EquiLateral: The Equine Assisted EMDR Protocol ® , have both aged a bit since I first posted this video to YouTube 14 years ago. The early days of the work, and I was still rocking braces in my late thirties! 😉 😂

This video was made back in the beginning, and since then, my understanding and experiences with trauma and equine assisted psychotherapy has evolved, and deepened even further. And yet, many of the key themes are still true today…

A trauma-informed lens is still essential when we bring equine-assisted interactions to our clients. The past can become present very quickly, and bringing with it dissociation, in its many forms. For those of us who are providing equine assisted interactions within trauma work, are we making conscious choices? Are we still learning? Are we still being willing to continue to grow, evolve, and explore what these clients need from us, and within the equine assisted work? Our clients, our horses, and we, ourselves, need the answer to this question, to be a “yes.”

Any therapists already trained in EMDR therapy will tell you that most EMDR trainings only scratch the surface about complex trauma and dissociation.

So, to help with this challenge my EMDRIA approved EMDR training helps newly trained clinicians to also better understand how to work with complex trauma. I also run small trainings, with 9-12 people, total. You get a more personal learning experience, can ask in depth questions, and get support as you learn and practice. Congratulations to the newest group of EquiLateral: The Equine Assisted EMDR Protocol, graduates! This group of amazing EMDR Therapists and Equine Specialists came together here in Arizona to create a powerful community with open-heartedness, and a shared respect for partnering with horses to bring the EA-EMDR to their clients. Many are building programs, making changes, and finding inspiration to bring EA-EMDR to existing programs and create new ones! The sky is the limit!

I seek to inspire and empower therapists and their clients while also co-facilitating with horses as sentient beings, and in a manner that is supported by training, qualifications, and ethical practice in trauma treatment.

EMDR therapists trained in the model mindfully incorporate equine-assisted interactions within the eight-phased, three-pronged, standard EMDR protocol to become Equine-Assisted EMDR.
