During the school year, managing Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder can feel impossible. Between packed lunches, cafeteria stress, sports schedules, and homework, there is rarely enough time or emotional bandwidth to focus on expanding a teen's food repertoire.

That’s why we designed our 8-Week Collaborative ARFID Group to run this summer, starting July 8th.

With the pressure of the school year paused, summer gives your family the space to breathe, slow down, and dedicate time to building a new relationship with food.

What the program offers:

For Teens (Ages 12-17): Dr. Heather Rosen utilizes CBT-AR to help teens understand their sensory or anxiety-based food avoidance and build real bravery around new foods.

For Parents: Dr. Valerie Scelsa uses the SPACE protocol to help caregivers end the exhausting "accommodation cycle" and bring peace back to the dinner table.

Together: Supported, real-time food exposures in a safe, non-judgmental clinical environment.

Give your teen the tools to head into the next school year with more confidence, more flexibility, and less mealtime anxiety.

Dates: Wednesdays, July 8 – August 26, 2026
Location: Chappaqua, NY

At the heart of our mission to support families is Dr. Valerie Scelsa. A clinical psychologist with a deep passion for child and adolescent development, Valerie helps families navigate the often-overwhelming world of childhood anxiety and behavioral challenges.

Dr. Scelsa plays a vital role in our upcoming Collaborative ARFID Support Group (starting July 8th). While the teens work on food bravery, Valerie leads the parents. She specializes in the SPACE protocol (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions), giving parents the tools to move from "managing" their child’s anxiety to empowering their child’s independence.

Whether she is helping a teen face a food fear or helping a parent set a difficult boundary, Dr. Scelsa is a dedicated advocate for the families she serves.

In the middle of Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s easy to feel the pressure to "be better."

Social media is full of success stories and "hacks" for happiness. But for many of us, the reality of mental health isn’t a polished highlight reel—it’s the quiet, daily effort of showing up for yourself when things feel heavy.

If you’ve been feeling like you’re not "doing" this month correctly, remember: Mental health isn’t a performance; it’s a process.

The "process" doesn’t have a finish line, and it doesn't require an audience. It looks like:
-The "messy" middle: Showing up for therapy even when you don’t have all the answers.
-The setbacks: Understanding that a bad day doesn’t erase a week of progress.
-The small wins: Setting one boundary or taking one deep breath when things get loud.

This May, we’re not asking you to perform "wellness." We’re inviting you to honor your own unique process. Whether you’re moving fast or taking it one slow step at a time, you are exactly where you need to be.

Be patient with yourself today. Growth is happening, even in the quiet moments.

At PPG, we are proud to have our Eating Disorder Program led by Dr. Heather Rosen. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Rosen specializes in the treatment of a wide range of eating and feeding disorders. From Anorexia and Bulimia to Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), she provides evidence-based, compassionate care for adolescents and adults navigating these complex challenges.

She understands that an eating disorder isn't just about food—it’s often a combination of anxiety, sensory processing, and emotional regulation.

Her goal is to move beyond the symptoms to help her clients build genuine food flexibility, reduce body-related distress, and regain a sense of control and confidence in their daily lives.

Dr. Rosen works closely not just with her clients, but with families and medical teams to ensure a "whole-person" approach to recovery. She believes that with the right tools, a peaceful relationship with food is possible for everyone.

Dr. Rosen will be leading several of our specialized initiatives this summer, including our upcoming Collaborative ARFID Group starting July 8th!

We often treat Mental Health Awareness Month like a 30-day challenge—something to focus on for a few weeks before returning to the "hustle." But the truth is, your brain doesn't follow a calendar.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by the mid-May rush, navigating a major life transition, or simply feeling "stuck," remember: Mental health doesn’t have an expiration date. It’s always a good time to check in.

You haven’t "missed" the window for self-reflection or seeking support. Whether it's today, next week, or halfway through June, your well-being is always worth the pause.

At PPG, we’re here to help you navigate the "in-between" moments where real growth happens.

Take a breath. Check in. We’re here when you’re ready.

We know that navigating ARFID is a journey that doesn't happen overnight—and neither does finding the right time to start a new program. To make sure every family has the chance to get the support they need, we’ve shifted our start dates for the Empowering Teens & Supporting Parents group.

New Start Date: Wednesdays beginning July 8
Same Goal: Building food flexibility and family confidence.

ARFID is more than "picky eating"—it’s a sensory and anxiety-based challenge that affects the whole house. Our 8-week program gives you the gold-standard tools (CBT-AR and SPACE) to move forward together.

During Autism Acceptance Month, we’re reflecting on what it truly means to "honor" neurodiversity. It’s more than just awareness- it’s about recognizing that there isn’t one "right" way for a brain to function, learn, or connect with the world.

In our practice, we don't look at neurodivergence as something to be "fixed." Instead, we work to build environments and strategies that respect each individual's unique processing style. When we stop trying to fit every brain into the same box, we open the door to genuine confidence and connection.

When mealtimes become a battlefield, it’s a sign that the family needs a new set of tools.

We are so excited to launch Empowering Teens & Supporting Parents, a 9-week specialized ARFID support group starting April 29th.

What makes this group different?
We use a "Split & Shared" format. While teens work with Dr. Heather Rosen on CBT-AR skills to face their food fears, parents meet with Dr. Valerie Scelsa to learn SPACE strategies—reducing the "accommodation cycle" and bringing calm back to the dinner table.

Together, we’ll practice real-time food exposures in a safe, non-judgmental space.
