This Silly Move Activates the Same Calming Reflex ER Doctors Use
This looks ridiculous. The science is solid.
When you puff your cheeks fully, you create pressure in your oral cavity that pushes directly against the tissues surrounding your vagus nerve.
It’s a mild version of the Valsalva maneuver — the same technique ER doctors use to slow a dangerously fast heart rate.
Three things happen at once: vagal stimulation, extended exhale, and facial tension release.
Puff up. Hold 3-5 seconds. Release as slowly as possible.
Do it 3 times. Your heart rate will be noticeably slower by the third one.
Nobody said nervous system regulation had to look dignified.
Comment 😮💨 if you felt calmer immediately.
