DIY Electrolytes đ§đ§
I started making my own electrolyte mix because I wanted something simple, affordable, and without a bunch of unnecessary ingredients.
Hereâs the 30-serving batch Iâm currently using:
⢠45 g sea salt
⢠42 g potassium chloride
⢠71 g magnesium glycinate
Mix everything VERY thoroughly and store in an airtight container.
For my 32 oz water bottle, I use approximately 5.3 g of the finished mix (about 1 tsp)
â ď¸ Important: Donât blindly copy these gram amounts with different brands and assume youâre getting the same electrolyte dose.
The potency of your powder matters more than the weight alone. Salt, potassium chloride, and especially magnesium powders can vary in how much elemental sodium, potassium, or magnesium they provide per gram.
For example, my magnesium glycinate provides 200 mg elemental magnesium per 3.95 g of powder, which is what I used to calculate my recipe.
So before making your own:
    1    Check the label for the amount of elemental magnesium or potassium per serving.
    2    Calculate your recipe based on the actual potency of YOUR powder.
    3    Use a gram scale rather than measuring by teaspoons for the bulk recipe.
    4    Start with a smaller serving if youâre new to electrolyte supplementation.
đ Want to flavor it?
Keep the base mix plain and add flavor directly to your bottle:
đ Lemon: Add a small amount of lemon essential oil only if it is specifically labeled for internal/food use and appropriate for ingestion.
đ Strawberry: Add crushed freeze-dried strawberry powder for natural strawberry flavor and a little color.
You could also add fresh lemon or lime juice if you prefer.
Simple ingredients. No unnecessary fillers. Just electrolytes. đ§
