When most people hear the word grief, they think of death. But grief is not only about losing someone to death. Grief shows up anytime something familiar, meaningful, or expected changes and you’re left trying to adjust to a life that no longer looks the same.

It shows up in the mind and the body in ways like:
-emotional numbness or overwhelm
-irritability or short temper
-fatigue that rest doesn’t fix
-difficulty concentrating
-feeling disconnected from yourself or others
-waves of sadness that come and go

So if you’ve ever felt like you’re “too sensitive” or “not handling it well enough,” this may not be a failure to cope. It may be grief that hasn’t been named yet.

You are meant to come back home to yourself slowly, gently, and without pressure to rush the process.

You might not be "lazy". You might just be emotionally exhausted. A few signs of emotional exhaustion include:
- Irritability: Small things feel overwhelming. You're patience is shorter than usual, even with things you used to handle well.
- Numbness: You're not necessairly sad,but you feel nothing. You may be emotionally flat, disconnected, or just going through the motions.
-Overworking: Staying busy so that you don't have to feel becuase sometimes rest feels uncomfortable, so productivity becomes a distraction.
-Disconnection: You withdraw from yourself, others, or things you used to enjoy. You might feel present physically, but not emotionally.
-Difficulty resting: Even when you stop, your mind doesn't. Rest can feel unsafe, unproductive, or hard to access.

Life has a way of changing us. Sometimes it's through loss. Sometimes it's through unexpected transitions, heartbreak, burnout, disappointment, or circumstances we never would have chosen.

When we're in the middle of a difficult season, survival often becomes the goal. We focus on making it through the day, carrying the responsibilities we can't set down, and finding enough strength to keep moving forward.

But survival leaves its mark.

It shapes the way we see ourselves, our relationships, our priorities, and our understanding of what truly matters. The person you were before may not be the same person you are today, and that's okay.

Throughout the month of June, we'll be exploring what it means to move beyond survival by creating space for healing, growth, emotional wellness, and self-discovery. We'll talk about grief, resilience, rest, identity, and the courage it takes to rebuild after life changes.

You don't have to have it all figured out. You don't have to be "over it." You don't have to pretend you're "fine".

You simply have to be willing to honor where you've been and remain open to where you're going.

✨ What has this season taught you about yourself?

Share in the comments if you're comfortable, or take a moment to reflect on it for yourself.
