Last October, Horace's BMX season came to a sudden stop when a crash during a race left him with a fractured elbow. The injury forced him to miss the national championship in Tulsa and at the time, he feared he'd be out of racing for months.
Horace turned to Dr. Ahearn, Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon at OrthoCarolina, who diagnosed an olecranon elbow fracture. He underwent surgery using plates and screws to repair the fracture, followed by physical therapy focused on restoring strength and mobility for a safe return to competitive BMX racing.
Despite the setback, Horace's recovery exceeded every expectation. Just two weeks after surgery, he was back on the track competing in the Baby Grands tournament in Tennessee, earning a podium finish to close out his season on a high note.
Now fully back in competition, Horace has already claimed 2nd place in the first South Carolina State Championship qualifier with a 1st place class finish, followed by another 2nd place finish at the Carolina National, one of the biggest BMX races in the country. Best of all? Horace says he's returned to racing completely pain-free! 🏍️👏
Horace's story is a powerful reminder of what's possible with specialized orthopedic care and a patient-centered approach to recovery.
