Which reminder did you need to hear most? 👇

Stressful seasons can make feeding yourself feel even more overwhelming, especially when you have ADHD🧠

💜 Even when life feels uncertain, food can still be a way to care for yourself. Swipe through for some gentle reminders to support you during tough times.

✨ Remember: You’re not alone and it’s okay to lean on community and do what works best for your brain instead of what you think you “should” do.

If you’re ready to break free from the binge/restrict cycle, learn what actually works for your ADHD brain, and get compassionate support along the way, I’d love to help.

My small group coaching program for ADHDers is designed to help you build trust with food and your body, one step at a time.

Do you find food overwhelming as an ADHDer?

If so, you’re not alone. We use all of our executive functions in the process of feeding ourselves. Plus, ADHD meds, unpredictable hunger cues, sensory sensitivities, etc. can make food feel overwhelming.

Exploring ways to lower barriers with food can help make eating feel easier and more accessible.

For a lot of my clients (and myself), that can mean giving yourself permission to use “processed” foods.

I know people demonize processed foods. But anything you eat that is not in its original form is technically a processed foods.

Some processed foods are more nutrient-dense than others. But processed foods are an accommodation for ADHDers.

And no I’m not saying you should live off of cakes, chips, cookies, soda, etc. because that probably doesn’t make you feel great.

But if giving yourself permission to use things like canned beans, tuna packets, jarred sauces, frozen fruits & veggies, precut veggies, salad kits (although I’d probably avoid these for now), frozen precooked chicken mean you’ll actually make meal vs. eating nothing or eating a ton of random snacks until you feel yucky, then please give yourself permission to use them.

Fed is best.

Have you ever done this?

If you get the “ick” when you have to stir in the liquid that separates in Greek yogurt, try shaking it up before you open it.

The first time I shared this with a client she looked at me dumbfounded and said, “how the efff have I never thought to do that?!”

If you haven’t tried this and that liquid prevents you from eating Greek yogurt, give it a try!

The liquid that separates is just the whey from the milk. Whey is the protein-rich part of milk. That liquid is perfectly safe to consume and it’s not a sign that your Greek yogurt has spoiled.

If you notice changes in color, an off smell, or bad taste, then it’s probably best to toss that Greek yogurt.

Do you find yourself eating for stimulation while watching tv👇

TV is not stimulating enough for ADHD 🧠s. You may feel the need to do something else (usually with your 👋 or 👄) so you can sit down and watch your show.

The accessibility (for many) and enjoyable sensory experience make food an easy solution to be able to enjoy your show.

But eating for stimulation + distracted eating can lead to overeating or bingeing.

For some of my clients diagnosed later in life, food has been a way to self-medicate or get dopamine without them even knowing it!

It is 100% OKAY to use food for stimulation (and even for distraction)! Sometimes food is what will give your ADHD 🧠 the stimulation it’s seeking and that is okay.

Give yourself permission to eat for stimulation without guilt while also ask yourself, “What other tools could I ADD to the mix that engage one of your other senses?”

Here’s a few ideas:
🪀fidgets
🧩puzzles
📿chewelry or chewable jewelry for an oral stimm
🏄‍♀️balance board
✍️ coloring
🧺 a boring, repetitive task to keep your 👋 busy & you can feel like a multitasking super 🌟

⚠️If you are hungry, PLEASE nourish your body. Doing any of these things to ignore your hunger is just another form of restriction that will likely lead to overeating/binge eating.

In my small group coaching program, I help you build your own Dopamine Menu so that food doesn’t have to be your only source of stimulation and you can stop binge eating 🙌

What’s your go-to tool for stimulation right now👇

Mine is dancing to house music 💃🪩

I want to be clear that using food for stimulation is NOT inherently bad. But it can be problematic when it is your ONLY tool for stimulation🏆

Telling an ADHDer not to eat for stimulation is not helpful or practical advice either.

So, here’s some tips that have helped my clients:
-give yourself permission to eat for stimulation
-create a dopamine toolkit, which can include food, so that food is not your only source of stimulation (I help you with this in my program)
-connect with your senses while eating to maximize the dopamine you get from the sensory experience of eating
-add some protein, especially if you’re only eating carbs for stimulation
-get support

In my Intuitive Eating for ADHD Small Group Coaching Program, I help you build a dopamine toolkit and heal your relationship with food so you can stop binge eating 🙌

What’s your go-to way to eat more fiber? 👀

If you feel like carbs are your enemy, this is your reminder that carbs like whole grains, beans, and fruit are excellent sources of fiber. Including these types of carbs in your eating pattern makes it A LOT easier to enough fiber.

A few of my favs: bean salad, apples, berries, and Gutzy fruit squeeze pouches.

You can find fiber in:
whole grains, beans/lentils, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds.

Why is fiber so important?
-helps keep you full longer

-supports more stable energy + focus (less blood sugar rollercoaster)

-supports digestion 💩

-can help reduce risk of type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and certain cancers

Most adults need around 25–38g of fiber per day. It’s okay if you don’t hit it perfectly to see benefits.

⚠️ Want to eat more fiber? GO SLOW (and please don’t fibermaxx). Adding too much fiber too fast can lead to bloating and discomfort. Start by adding 1 fiber source at a time and build from there (and don’t forget to drink plenty of water 💧).

If you want more ADHD-friendly, low-effort ways to actually eat more fiber (without overthinking it), I break it all down in my book How to Eat Well for Adults with ADHD 📖

Are you skipping breakfast because you don’t have time?

Only to find yourself standing in the pantry binge eating by 4pm. If so ADHDer, you’re not alone.

Not having time and not feeling hungry are reasons my clients skip breakfast all the time. But when you’re stuck in the ADHD binge/restrict cycle, skipping breakfast sets you up to repeat the cycle. And this cycle is EXHAUSTING 😫

This is why giving yourself permission to use shortcuts and convenience foods matters. I keep a few of these on hand for exactly those mornings. This is what I mean when I say work with your ADHD brain.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever said this? 🙋🏼‍♀️

If so, you’re not alone 💜

When you hold yourself to neurotypical expectations about how feeding yourself should look, it’s easy to believe you’re failing at food.

But your needs are valid.

Your brain works differently and that’s okay. You don’t need to measure up to a neurotypical idea of what eating “should” look like to be worthy of support.

These thoughts are signs of internalized ableism, and unlearning them is part of working with your ADHD brain instead of against it.

What’s your go-to crunchy snack? 👇

🥕 + hummus or Honeycrisp 🍎 + gouda 🧀 are my go-to crunchy snacks. What’s yours?

PSA: These are just ideas! If these don’t work for you (allergies, sensory sensitivities, or just personal preference), that’s totally fine. The goal = finding snacks YOU enjoy and that actually satisfy you.

🥕Many ADHDers find crunchy foods stimulating and helpful for eating more regularly.

🥨If you love crunchy carbs (chips, pretzels, crackers), try pairing them with a protein or fat (cheese, hummus, nuts) to keep you full longer.

🍎Adding a crunch factor (like raw veggies, nuts, or seeds) to meals can make eating more satisfying AND because satisfaction is the mental piece of fullness!

Struggling with eating consistently? Feeling stuck in the binge/restrict cycle?

💡 In my Intuitive Eating for ADHD Small Group Coaching Program, you’ll learn how to break the binge/restrict cycle and actually nourish your body in a way that works with your ADHD 🧠No more relying on willpower or feeling guilty about what you eat. Just real, sustainable strategies that help you feel better without the all-or-nothing mindset.
