You don’t always need a special activity to work on speech and language—some of the best practice happens during everyday routines!

Use everyday moments: Talk together while getting dressed, riding in the car, cooking, or running errands.

Encourage conversation: Ask open-ended questions and give your child time to share their thoughts.

Talk about it: Describe what you see, what you’re doing, and what might happen next.

Sensory play is more than just fun! It gives children opportunities to explore different textures, sounds, movements, and sensations while building important everyday skills!

Activities like playing with Play-Doh, digging through a sensory bin, finger painting, or playing with water can support:

• Fine motor skills
• Hand-eye coordination
• Body awareness
• Attention and focus
• Exploring and tolerating different textures

Sensory play can be simple! Try creating a sensory activity at home using items you already have and let your child explore at their own pace.

Word of the Week: FRIENDLY

Being friendly means being kind, welcoming, and nice to others!

Try practicing the word friendly with your child this week. Ask them:

“What does it mean to be friendly?”
“How can you be friendly to a new friend?”
“Can you use friendly in a sentence?”

Learning new words helps children grow their vocabulary and express themselves more confidently!

Question of the Week: What age should a child be easy to understand by unfamiliar people?

The answer is C . Around 4 years old!

By age 4, most children should be understood by unfamiliar listeners most of the time.

It’s still normal for some speech sounds to be developing at this age. If you’re frequently having trouble understanding your child, a speech-language screening can help determine whether extra support may be beneficial.

Speech Activity: Build a Silly Sentence

Silly sentences make speech practice fun while building important communication skills! Creating funny sentences encourages children to expand vocabulary, practice sentence structure, organize their thoughts, and use their imagination—all while talking and laughing along the way.

Try it at home and see how silly you can get!

Question of the Week: Can a child outgrow a speech delay?

Sometimes children do catch up on their own, but not every speech delay resolves without support. Early speech and language support can help children build stronger communication skills and prevent them from falling further behind.

If you have concerns about your child’s speech or language development, a speech-language screening or evaluation can help determine whether additional support may be beneficial.
