The meeting starts in three minutes.

You have done the preparation. You know the material. But something in your chest is tight and you are not sure why. The old pattern would be to ignore it. To push through. To perform competence while the body sends signals you have trained yourself not to receive.

But you have been practicing.

So you take one breath. You notice the tightness. You do not try to fix it or analyze it or make it go away. You simply acknowledge that it is there. That your body is telling you something about this room, this moment, this conversation that is about to unfold.

And something shifts.

Not the circumstance. The circumstance is the same. But your relationship to it changes. You enter the room with your body instead of despite it. The body speaks in sensation, not sentences.

It does not say I am overwhelmed and need you to cancel that meeting. It tightens your shoulders. It shortens your breath. It sends a flutter to your stomach that you have learned to ignore.

It does not say This person is not safe. It contracts. It pulls energy inward. It creates distance before your mind has formed an opinion.

It does not say This is exactly right. It softens. It opens. It exhales without being asked.

You already know this language. You have simply forgotten that you know it.

The tightness in your jaw is information. The heaviness in your chest is information. The lightness that arrives when you speak truth is information. The body has been sending signals your entire life. The question is whether you are receiving them.

Start with the obvious ones. Notice what happens in your body when you think about your calendar for the next week. Not what you think about it. What you feel. Where does the sensation live. What is its texture. Does it have weight or temperature or movement.

The return does not begin with a workshop or a book or a breakthrough.

It begins with one breath taken on purpose.

Not the automatic breath that keeps you alive while you answer emails. Not the shallow sip of air that accompanies overwhelm. One breath where you notice you are breathing. Where you feel the air enter and the chest expand and the shoulders soften without being told.

This is the doorway.

You may be noticing how simple this sounds. How almost disappointing. After all the complexity of disconnection, after the years of override, the way back is just breathing. Just noticing. Just being present to what is already happening in the body that has been carrying you all along.

But simple is not the same as easy.

The mind will say this is not enough. That real change requires more effort, more strategy, more doing. The mind is used to being in charge. It does not surrender the wheel gracefully.

And yet.

You were not born disconnected from your body.

Watch any infant. They cry when hungry, sleep when tired, reach for what delights them, turn away from what does not. There is no committee meeting between sensation and response. The body speaks and the whole being listens.

Then something happens.

Someone says you are too sensitive. Too loud. Too much. Too slow. The body that knew exactly what it needed becomes a problem to be managed. The feelings that arrived unbidden become inconvenient. The knowing that lived in your bones becomes something to override in service of belonging.

You learned to eat when the clock said so, not when hunger arrived. To sit still when every cell wanted to move. To smile when the situation called for it regardless of what your face wanted to do. To push through exhaustion because rest was for later, for weekends, for people who did not have your responsibilities.
