Doctors are supposed to practice evidence-based medicine (an approach to healthcare that uses the best available scientific research to guide medical decisions for individual patients), so it's weird to hear doctors telling runners that stretching is very important when almost all available evidence points to the contrary - we can hardly measure an effect.
The meta-analysis below pooled together 25 trials, including 26,610 participants with 3464 injuries, for analysis. They found the stratified exposure analyses proved NO BENEFICIAL EFFECT FOR STRETCHING (RR 0.963 (0.846–1.095)).
But they also found that strength training can reduce acute injuries by 1/3 and overuse injuries by 1/2!
Of course, every runner who has taken our PR Running class already knows and has links to even more articles making this point.
