Landon who is 8 years old is so full of life, love, and laughter. Unfortunately God dealt him a hard hand to play at such a young age. Back in the summer his parents found a mole on his back. They took him in to see a dermatologist. At the time the Dr removed the mole, sent it out for biopsy, and back came the news that it was cancer. The family started their journey to U of M in order to find out
what to do. He had surgery to remove a wider border around the mole along with the removal of 14 total lymph nodes from under his arm pits. Unfortunately the biopsies from the lymph nodes came back positive, meaning that the cancer had spread to them. He had to go back for another surgery to remove both major lymph chains and to have a full body scan to check if the cancer had spread to any organs. Thankfully the scan was negative and the biopsies on the major lymph chains showed that all of the cancer was removed. However, melanoma is a very serious and deadly let alone very rare in children. The next step in this battle is for Landon to get a port placed and to receive Interferon injections as a preventative measure. He has to go out to U of M 5 times a week for 4 weeks (he is not allowed to stay at the hospital), followed by 3 times a week treatments for 48 weeks. The doctors do not know what to expect, they have already stated that Landon will be teaching them in this journey.
