**Title: Don’t Waste My Time**
P.S. I enjoyed all the walkers from this weekend. I found it entertaining — and revealing. What I saw was two different worlds colliding. This isn’t a slight against the walkers. In fact, it’s because I care that I’m saying it at all.
**Integrity** — the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles, even when no one is watching.
I have zero tolerance for people who smile in my face while scheming behind my back. Be real with me once, and I’ll meet you with openness. But you only get one chance. I keep giving the community the benefit of the doubt, and time after time, the culture shows its ass.
The stepping community, as a whole, is losing its soul. The love, the fun, the togetherness — and yes, the **integrity** — of Chicago-style stepping is fading. The moral foundation of the dance has been compromised. No one wants to challenge the mainstream anymore. Now, *acceptance* is the new virtue. But acceptance without standards isn’t growth — it’s complacency.
**Atlanta’s Stepping Scene**: I said it years ago, and I’ll say it again — it’s content, directionless, and drifting into irrelevance. Dancers believe they’ve peaked, that there’s nothing left to learn. But the moment they step into the mecca — *Chicago* — they’re reduced to onlookers. Silent. Invisible.
And the DJs? They still don’t understand what moves a true stepper. They think 40 people on the floor means they’re doing something right. But let’s be honest — those 40 people are there because they have nowhere else to go. The music won’t get better. The dancing won’t evolve. So they stay — not out of passion, but out of resignation.
And why? Because growth would mean change. And change threatens the status quo. It means the spotlight won’t always be on you. You can’t give insight to someone who refuses to see.
The community would rather support venues that don’t care about us than invest in the people who *are* the culture. You want to celebrate a 40-person party at a dive bar? Music that’s decent once every seven songs? Dancers who aren’t in sync, just taking turns on the Soul Train line for clout?
Let’s be real: the only event in Atlanta that even qualifies as a *party* is First Friday. And even then — while it’s a true *Atlanta* stepper party — I can make a strong case it’s not a true *steppers’* party.
But it is what it is.
**Respect** — a positive feeling of admiration or deference for someone based on their abilities, qualities, achievements, or rights.
I *do* respect the time and effort some people pour into themselves, the art, and the community. But let’s not pretend — the dance has been watered down for years. I don’t see the point in workshops or classes anymore. You don’t need training to mimic what’s already out there.
People don’t want to grow. They want to be seen. To be admired. To hold a trophy — even if it’s empty.
No self-worth. No integrity. No respect.
The older generation can’t let go. They need to stay relevant. If you don’t include them, they’ll sabotage you in silence. And the younger ones? They crave attention they’ve never earned — not at that scale, not for that little. They want the moves, the style, the accolades — without the work, without the time, without the sacrifice.
I could go on.
And to those who say, “Be positive” — there is no positive without the negative. They’re two sides of the same coin. Without failure, there is no success.

**Evolution** — the change in the inherited traits of a biological population over successive generations.
This is for those who love to talk about “evolving the dance” and all that rhetoric. You can’t evolve without accountability in the present. Look at the definition: *inherited* — meaning a foundation, a structure, something passed down. And *traits* — not random moves, not trends, but consistent, shared characteristics.
How many of those do we really see today? Very few. Most are just remnants. Echoes.
And here’s the irony — the people shouting loudest about evolution are often the ones who want *less* accountability and *more* acceptance — so their flaws stay hidden.
In most sports, I’ve noticed the people having the most fun are the ones who are actually good at it. And the ones who know their limits? They don’t chase clout. They just show up, enjoy the game, and have fun.
So here’s my positive note: to those who are true to themselves — who come out just with their crew, their friends, to move, to connect, to laugh — I see you. I honor you.
You’re the few who took a class just to learn the basics, but didn’t get lost in the ego, the politics, the performance. You didn’t consume yourself in the rigamarole. I find that beautiful.
I love seeing people who just want to be out there — for the exercise, for the joy, for the togetherness.
That’s real.
That’s what stepping *should* be and a little competition as well.
