Most kids don’t run out of energy because practice is too hard. They run out because they weren’t fueled for it.

About 90 minutes before practice, keep it simple:

🍌 1 banana
🍞 1 slice of white bread
💧 Water

That’s enough to provide quick, easy-to-digest carbohydrates without sitting heavy in the stomach.

Parents often think they need a “perfect” pre-practice meal. They don’t.

Simple foods, at the right time, consistently beat complicated nutrition plans that never happen.

Health - and performance - doesn’t have to be complicated.

What’s your child’s go-to pre-practice snack?

After Work Grappler: Your 3-Minute Reset Before Training 🥋

You just spent 8+ hours sitting, staring at a screen, answering emails, and dealing with work stress.

Then you expect your body to instantly perform on the mats.

That’s a tough transition.

The first few rounds often feel slow, stiff, and unfocused - not because you’re out of shape, but because your body is still in “work mode.”

Before you walk through the academy doors, take 2–3 minutes in your car:

🍌 Eat smart. A small, easy-to-digest snack can give you the energy you need without weighing you down.

💧 Hydrate with purpose. Even mild dehydration can affect your focus, reaction time, and endurance.

🌬️ Breathe to reset. A few slow breaths help shift your nervous system, reduce tension, and prepare your mind to train.

Small habits. Big difference.

Your warm-up doesn’t start on the mats - it starts before you even step inside.

What’s one thing you always do before training?

There’s no shortage of health advice these days.

New supplements. New routines. New gadgets. New “must-do” habits.

But before adding more, ask yourself:

Are the fundamentals in place?

✔️ Are you sleeping enough?
✔️ Are you eating enough protein?
✔️ Are you moving your body consistently?
✔️ Are you breathing in a way that helps your body instead of adding more stress?
✔️ Are you giving yourself time to recover?

The basics aren’t exciting, but they’re what everything else is built on.

At Breathe Move Eat, that’s where we’ll always start—simple, practical habits that fit real life and help you feel, perform, and recover better.

Because the basics done well will almost always outperform chasing the next big thing.

Motivation, if anything, is an outcome.
You can’t control motivation. It can’t be directly pursued.

What you can control is the series of factors that underpin motivation.

Just knowing this can help you:

* stop waiting for a green light to get started
* realize that, even if it’s hard, taking action gets you closer to the goal that keeps you up at night
* understand that doing the right thing in the moment is totally within your control
With this approach, no matter what happens, you can move forward and make progress on any given day. And that progress, even if small, feels good and can be enough to keep you going… until the next day.

This is how you achieve great things.

Yes, it might be a long, slow, hard journey. But when we look back on our lives, what we remember most will be the things that were worth struggling for—and the way it felt to earn our happiness.

💙 Show some love. Tag a friend who could use this.

Comfortable being uncomfortable.

If you want to take control over your stress response (think life, work, relationships, exercise, being cut off in traffic and so on) you must learn to control your breathing.

Two quotes that I personally remind myself of all the time:

“Breathing is your brain’s remote control.”
“The mind is the king of the senses. The breath is the king of the mind.”

3 weeks ago I started coaching my brother and BJJ student in preparation for PanAms & World Masters.

We’ve been working on developing strong breathing mechanics as mechanics is the foundation of good breathing for health & performance.

In the video we are challenging mechanics and the respiratory structure by trying to control/prolong the exhalation while jumping rope.

This not only helps adapt the respiratory muscles for moments of stress but also improves CO2 tolerance, a key component of performance.
