September can create sleep loss without ever changing your bedtime.

An alarm that moves from 7:15 to 6:15 while bedtime stays at 11:15 is simply one less hour of sleep opportunity.

Then the next day can look different too: lower energy, more hunger, less patience, worse focus, a workout that suddenly feels harder.

Before assuming you need a new fix, check whether your schedule quietly took something away.

Your morning routine starts the night before.

Feeling tired or foggy after summer doesn’t automatically mean you’re deficient in something.

But nutrient status can be one piece worth considering when symptoms persist or risk factors are present.

Dr. Blake Butler, DC, discusses vitamin D, B12, folate, magnesium, and other factors that may come into the conversation depending on the individual.

The important part: symptoms alone can’t tell you whether a nutrient is actually low.

Test when there’s a reason to test. Treat what the full picture supports.

Feeling colder than everyone else? More tired than usual? Noticing changes in your hair, skin, digestion, or weight?

Those symptoms can be easy to explain away on their own.
Together, they may be worth a closer look.

As September routines shift, this is a good reminder that thyroid symptoms can show up across the body, and that the right next step is looking at the full pattern, not guessing from one symptom.

Your alarm clock isn’t the only thing that notices a schedule change.

Sleep timing, meals, and morning light all help give your body cues about when to be awake, eat, and wind down.

Christie Levi, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, recommends making those shifts before September routines fully kick in when possible: gradually adjust sleep and meal timing, then get outside for morning light.

Small changes now can make earlier mornings feel a lot less abrupt later.

Cold-season advice gets noisy fast: vitamin C, zinc, vitamin D, “immune boosters,” sleep hacks.

The more useful question is usually more personal: where are your actual gaps?

As summer winds down and September routines eventually pick up, Dr. Renegar answers some of the questions patients are already asking about supplements, nutrient deficiencies, sleep, and why some people seem to feel run down more often as the seasons change.

Your immune health doesn’t come down to one product. Sleep, nutrition, stress, recovery, nutrient status, and your broader health picture all matter.

“Inflammation” gets blamed on everything.
The reality is more complicated.

Sleep, stress, metabolic health, movement, infections, underlying conditions, diet, and other factors can all influence inflammatory signaling.

That’s why chasing one “anti-inflammatory” food or supplement can miss the bigger picture.

If symptoms keep coming back or something still feels off, the more useful question is often what may be contributing to inflammation in the first place.
