📸 Dr. H. Albin Gritsch, Dr. Aggrey Mweemba, and the transplant team performed the first pediatric kidney transplant in Zambia.

Through the ACS H.O.P.E. Kidney Transplant Capacity Initiative, surgeons are working alongside local providers to help develop safe, sustainable kidney transplant programs in resource-limited settings. Since 2024, the initiative has supported 17 living donor kidney transplants in Zambia, including the country's first pediatric kidney transplants.

This work reflects a broader goal: moving beyond short-term surgical missions to build lasting local capacity through training, collaboration, and knowledge exchange.
