Perfection or striving to be perfect ends up limiting you from living in the present moment fully. You get stuck in high expectations that can be unrealistic and overwhelming. Letting go of perfectionism can be challenging without practicing self compassion. I’ve had so many people come to me expecting to fix their problems without changing the way they treat themselves because to face themselves and nurture themselves seems selfish, and weak. Loving yourself is the most courageous thing you can do in a world that has taught you not to give yourself grace.

Bottling up our emotions puts us at risk of sooo many health issues. Yes, we should express them in safe ways that do not put ourselves or others in danger. We should not place our emotional experience onto others whom are not able to sit with us in our emotional experience. But joy, frustration, anger, sadness, excitement, etc…. are all natural human instincts and all make up our ability to socialize with others. We are meant to feel and express feeling. We are meant to connect with others through emotional expression. If you are being told to stop being emotional then you are being oppressed, controlled and manipulated, whether or not it is intentionally controlling, the impact is the same. Find ways to express your emotions in safe spaces. Trusted family, friends, mental health professionals, and community organizations are wonderful places to start.

Co-parenting can be hard.
Yes, children do better when they see their parents having a respectful relationship.
So, yes, you should try to avoid speaking ill of your ex in front of your children.
BUT, do not internalize your thoughts and feelings, because this does no good for your mental health which also impacts your children. Find a place that is safe and appropriate to express yourself like a friend, therapist or a journal. Releasing your authentic experience is healthy when it is done in a safe space.
