Picnic Week Finale! 🧺☀️

We ended Picnic Week with an outdoor picnic after nap. Each child had their own little picnic basket with a snack. Sunshine, friends, and snacks... the perfect way to wrap up our theme!

Pack Your Basket! 🥪🍉🍕

Today the children got to be picnic planners! Each child chose which foods they wanted to bring, then glued them into their very own picnic basket. From pizza and hamburgers to watermelon, sandwiches, corn, and popsicles... no two baskets looked the same!

*What they practiced:*
*Fine Motor Skills* → cutting, gluing, placing small pieces
*Decision Making* → choosing foods for their picnic
*Language* → naming foods and talking about picnic favorites
*Creativity* → designing their own basket

We loved seeing all the different food choices! Ask your child what foods they packed in their basket tonight 😉

Rescue the Picnic Food! 🐜 🧺

Today the kids had an important job... the ants got into our picnic food!

Each piece of play food was "stuck" with blue tape ants. The children had to carefully rescue the food by peeling off the tape, then put the pieces back together and pack them into the picnic basket.

So much focus and problem-solving happening!

*What they practiced:*
*Fine Motor Skills* → peeling tape, picking up small pieces
*Problem Solving* → figuring out how the food pieces fit together
*Imagination* → saving the picnic and packing the basket
*Teamwork* → helping each other rescue the food

Mission accomplished! The picnic is safe and ready to go 💛

Picnic Week: PB&J Day! 🥪💜🤎

Today our little chefs made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to take on a picnic!

Instead of real food, we used a plastic spreading tool and paint. Purple for jelly, brown for peanut butter, spread right onto their sandwich bread templates.

The best part? Watching them notice the colors mix together and feel the swirly, sticky texture of “PB&J.” Lots of giggles, lots of learning.

*What they practiced:*
*Fine Motor Skills* → spreading
*Sensory --> color mixing

This week we’re talking all about picnics! 🐜🧺

At circle time we learned what a picnic is and brainstormed all the yummy foods people pack. We sang “We’re Going on a Picnic” and every child got to name a food they’d bring. I loved hearing their ideas 💛

For our craft, the kids made their very own red and white checkered placemats... complete with ants! They practiced fine motor skills by gluing red rectangles to make the checkerboard, then used their fingers and black paint to add ants crawling across.

Ask your little one tonight: “What food would YOU bring on a picnic?” 😉

Oh no! Our Ice Cream Melted 🍦

Today we turned a little "oops" into big fun with melted vanilla ice cream... made from oobleck!
The kids poured it, scooped it, stirred it into bowls, and loved the cool, slimy texture. They played for so long because it feels amazing on little hands.

Simple to make, easy to clean, and hours of curious, happy play 💛

Want to make it at home? Mix 2 parts cornstarch to 1 part water, add a drop of vanilla for scent and plastic sprinkles.

Puffy Paint Ice Cream! 🍦

Puffy paint is always a hit here! To make it, we mix equal parts shaving cream and white glue, then add a few drops of food coloring or paint. The texture is so cool, and the best part? It dries puffy too! 😊

Today each child picked their own “ice cream” color and designed their cone. Once they finished, they added paper sprinkles for the perfect touch. 🎉

This craft looks like just messy fun, but it’s packed with learning:

*Sensory play* from that fluffy, foamy texture
*Fine motor skills* using brushes
*Early science* mixing ingredients and watching it change as it dries
*Language* talking about colors, textures, and “my favorite flavor”

Simple to set up, big on smiles, and great for little hands and minds!

Our morning was filled with building, reading, singing, and learning through play! 🌞

Blocks became towers, books sparked big ideas, and songs turned into giggles. Every moment of play is a chance to grow:
*Building* → problem solving + fine motor skills
*Reading* → language + imagination
*Singing* → rhythm + memory + joy
*Playing* → social skills + creativity + confidence

Love watching these little minds at work!

Melted Ice Cream Art! 🎨🍦

It’s Ice Cream Week, and today we explored what happens when the sun comes out! The children used paint sticks to “melt” their ice cream right off the cone.

They loved dragging, swiping, and scribbling to make drips and puddles. Every piece turned out wonderfully messy and full of personality!

So much learning through play, and lots of proud artists today 😊
