Over 60 years ago today, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law Medicare and Medicaid to provide important support for our elderly and working class families and individuals. Today these programs are lifelines for so many Ohioans, and we deserve elected officials who will fight to protect and improve these programs!

Fighting for working people starts with each and every one of our local unions, but it doesn’t end there. AFSCME Local 2696 members Pearl Washington, Justin Stafford and Jonnetta Johnson-Bell attended an AFL-CIO Tri-County Regional Labor Council roundtable discussion where attendees heard from Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga and other labor leaders about Ohio labor’s plans and goals for 2026. One of those major goals in 2026 is getting pro-worker candidates elected up and down the ballot in November who will fight for working people. Pearl, Justin and Jonnetta also serve as leaders in AFSCME Local 2696 strengthening our union daily.

Standing room only! 💪 😤 Members of AFSCME Local 101 and OAPSE/AFSCME Local 4 packed the Dayton Public Schools board meeting to protest unilateral changes to how their paychecks are being administered. The board making decisions about our pay without us is wrong, but we won't take the disrespect quietly!

"It is with a heavy heart that AFSCME Ohio Council 8 sends our condolences to the family of Jonathan Young and his fellow local union family in AFSCME Local 250. Jonathan was a dedicated public servant, beloved by his coworkers and committed to maintaining the great city of Cincinnati every day for over 24 years. Every worker deserves to come home at the end of the day, and while many AFSCME members across the state work critical and dangerous jobs with the knowledge that they are putting their lives at risk daily to serve our communities, we must also all do our part to look out for the safety of public workers.” – R. Sean Grayson, AFSCME Ohio Council 8 President

Cheri Sheets, president of Local 3200 and Dave Poole, president of Local 1699 tabled at a resource fair event at Ohio University to talk about the union difference and answer questions about their respective locals. AFSCME members at Ohio University do incredible work making sure the university runs well and students get the resources and assistance they need. Featuring that work during a resource fair is a great way to stay connected to the community that Local 3200 and Local 1699 serve daily!
