There’s so much magic in creating life and bringing it into the world that we often forget we are stepping into new versions of ourselves.

That the first part of our lives was meant for learning who we are, what we want, and what we’re capable of. That second part… (for those of us who want children) to choose between becoming parents and raising children. There is a difference.

A beautifully bold and wild difference… this week, I walked through these differences with the most badass client, as we daydreamed about the woman who her tiny little bub will grow up and call “Mama”.

This Mama is one of the strongest, most beautiful spirits I’ve ever encountered and I’m so honored and proud to be walking alongside her in this journey of self, of reclamation, and watching her grow into the Mama she’s always dreamed of.

To all of the wonderful humans walking into parenthood for the first time, the ones who are a little nervous about holding so much power, so much responsibility… remember how bright your light shined before this honor. May this new journey light a fire under you to fully step into versions of YOU, you’ve never thought were possible!

Then of course… hire the dopest midwife who will encourage your soul and guide you through the hardest parts. 🫶🏽

Freedom in birth ain’t only about having emergency care available. That part matters.

It’s also about whether you still got a voice in the room. Whether your yes still mean yes. Whether your no still mean no. Whether your body still get treated like it belongs to you.

Because birth will humble you, but it shouldn’t erase you.

So while everybody grilling and waving flags this weekend, I’m over here thinking about a different kind of independence.

The kind where you still belong to yourself even when you laboring.

Ready to birth in freedom?

Hospitals save lives. Let’s not play with that.

But hospitals are built for emergencies. That means healthy pregnancy often gets treated like something that needs managing from the jump.

Monitoring, restrictions, pressure to “do something,” and a chain of interventions that can stack on each other real quick.

Not always. But often enough that we need to be honest about it.

So the question isn’t “is hospital birth safe?”

It’s “what kind of birth environment am I stepping into, and what does that environment tend to do when things are actually going fine?”

“I want to have my first baby in the hospital… just in case something goes wrong.”

I hear that all the time. And I get why.

But I also want folks to sit with this:

What if… everything goes right?

What if your body does what it’s supposed to do, your baby is fine, and nothing needs fixing?

Because where you give birth doesn’t just matter in emergencies. It shapes the whole experience when things are normal… and MOST births are just that. Normal.

That part gets left out.

🐝If you’re sitting with this and it’s stirring something for you, I do consults where we actually slow all this down and talk through your options without pressure.✨

Is this 🎤 thing on?

Can I say the quiet part out loud?

Midwifery care is an investment in YOU, your baby, and your birth experience. I know looking at that number can make folks clutch their pearls, I clutch mine when I have to pay these expenses. 🫣

So how do families make it happen?

✨ Insurance reimbursement
Some insurance companies have been absolutely phenomenal about reimbursing out-of-network midwifery care (always verify your specific plan because insurance loves making things complicated 🙃).

✨ BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later)
Payment plans can help break that big number into smaller, more manageable pieces.

✨ HSA/FSA funds
Your healthcare dollars may be able to help cover eligible midwifery expenses.

✨ Healthshare accounts
Some families use health sharing programs to help with maternity expenses.

✨ Cash is still queen 👑
Many families budget, save, use tax refunds, baby showers, or creative financial planning.

✨ Bartering/trade
Listen… our grandmamas understood community care. Sometimes there’s room for creative exchange when it makes sense.

The goal ain’t to gatekeep. The goal is to find the path that works for your family.

If you’re wondering “okay but HOW do we make this happen?” holler at me. We’ll figure it out. 🐝

The new Bumble+Bee Midwifery website is live. 🐝✨

It’s been rebuilt to be easier to navigate, clearer about services, and more transparent about pricing. Booking is also more straightforward.

The goal was simple: make it easier for people to understand what I offer and how to work with me without having to dig for answers.

Take a look when you have a moment. I’d be glad to hear what you think.

People often wonder what sets their provider apart.

I can only speak for me, personally... I push back on systems that make care harder to access, harder to understand, and harder to trust. I might cuss a lil bit… ok, a little more than that… but, I’m passionate and fired up about real, actionable change.

I show up for my people. I answer messages. I explain things again when you need me to (probably way more than you need me to). And when something is not right, I don’t look away.

I’ve been in rooms I probably wasn’t “supposed” to be in, asking questions people don’t always like. I’ve stood in policy spaces and legal spaces because access and dignity in care are not optional for me.

At the same time, I’m still reachable. I try my damndest to stay present and consistent for the families who choose me.

I’m very much a living embodiment of my name; a lover of all mankind. I want you informed, well supported, and not left to figure it out alone. And I’m not afraid of a system that only works when people stay quiet. 🐝

If you’re here, you’re probably looking for care that actually feels like someone… y’know? Cares. That’s what I do.

Bumble+Bee got a new team member 🐝

Cullen, our standard poodle, starts Therapy Dog training this summer and will soon be joining prenatal + postpartum visits while he completes training.

Turns out pregnancy, postpartum, and newborn life are a little easier with a calm dog laying across your feet like he pays bills there.

Therapy dogs can help lower stress and anxiety, support emotional regulation, and bring comfort during hard seasons — and Cullen is already taking his job very seriously.

He’ll also be available for local schools, hospitals, community events, and supportive care visits.

Want Cullen at your next event or appointment? Send us a message.

Sweet Bee-ginnings 🐝🍯

Featuring Tatyonna + Baby Cohill

There is nothing more powerful than witnessing a young Black woman choose peace over fear when it comes to birth.

Tatyonna, a 21-year-old first-time mom, walked into our birth center in active labor determined to create a beautiful experience. And that’s exactly what she did.

There were moments she doubted herself. Moments she cried. Moments she said, “I can’t do this.” But she did. With her doula, her family, and our team surrounding her, she labored with strength, surrendered in transition, and brought her baby earthside with courage.

Unmedicated. Supported. Rooted. Powerful.

Watching her trust her body and reconnect with ancestral birth wisdom reminded me why this work matters. Birth does not have to be traumatic. In the right environment, with the right support, it can be transformative.

Honored to serve. Honored to pour back into our community. Honored to witness another mother step into her power.

Welcome earthside, Baby Cohill 🤎🐝
