Training for LIFE 🥳😎

When we train for longevity, we are creating a solid inside-out (internal forces), ground-up (external forces) relationship, which is the foundation we build on.

If you are “older” than you feel, (especially my ex-athletes) it can be REALLY HARD not training like an athlete (because it used to work and feel great).

Understanding the difference between longevity training and athletic training is key to bridging the gap.

ATHLETES are trained for war (aka their event) and the main goal is getting them there and crushing it at any cost. If they get injured, it’s about patching them up for the event and fix it later. Break now, fix later.

LONGEVITY TRAINING is about re-building, re-wiring and cleaning up old stuff and integrating new neuromuscular patterns. It also requires the ability and/or willingness to shift expectations (things we think we need for whatever reason) and do somethings that feel really disconnected or uncomfortable (those pesky microbarriers). If you get injured, we look at that as the next thing to clear up rather than the pressure to get somewhere.

Both are hard, both earn awesome gains mentally and physically.

Athletes need some key connections to keep them winning and moving efficiently and Former Athletes need to heal, rebuild and then start having fun with new or old athletic activities.

Getting older can be a beautiful thing, understand the changes in your body, adapt your mindset, embrace the journey and get after it accordingly 💪🏼👏🏼🔥

We all know that activating your core is fundamental when lifting, but did you know:
⚡️your breath activates your INTRINSIC core (aka the deep layers)- diaphragm and pelvic floor.
⚡️the TIMING of breath matters - we want to activate the intrinsic core BEFORE we do our movement
⚡️there is a FASCIAL CONNECTION running INTRINSICALLY from the foot through pelvic floor & diaphragm to the roof of the mouth-all dome structures (look up the deep front fascial line)

☀️I like to think of the foot to core like a mini trampoline system.

☀️A misfired dome system (core activation) is like when someone steals your “double jump” on a trampoline, resulting in a lot of extra work on the body (the body fights its self and EXTRINSIC muscles- meant for bigger, faster, stronger movements have to stabilize and produce big movements)

☀️A properly timed dome system is like when your friend comes and “double jumps” you on a trampoline and you effortlessly fly (the intrinsic core gets you moving upward FIRST, then your extrinsics can go wild because you are already stable. Hence the body is not fighting itself but working together to each do what it was designed to do).

☀️Lastly, when you learn to activate foot-to-core, you provide “FASCIAL TENSIONING”, which organizes your body from the ground up. (Stand up, put your hands in your hips. Drop the arches of your foot in, then roll on the outsides of your feet. Go back and forth and feel how hips internally and externally rotate and knees move.)

All we did with my client is give her the awareness she was shifting left and timed the core differently and look how stable she is!
