☀️ The sun's out and summer is at its apex! Don't forget: too much time outside can be dangerous if you don't protect yourself from UV rays 🔆 and dehydration 💧.

A tan might look healthy, but the ultraviolet (UV) radiation that gives you that temporary glow also contributes to premature aging, increases the risk of some cancers, and can cause severe burns 🥵. The heat also makes dehydration a risk, which can cause many unpleasant symptoms that prevent you from enjoying yourself.

So, if you're going to be out in the heat, protect your health with these tips: ✅

🌳 Stay in the shade most of the time.
🧴 Never leave your house without putting on sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 and reapply regularly (especially if you're in and out of water).

☀️ For all of us here at BestMed Urgent Care Corporate Offices, there's nothing like sunny skies to brighten the mood. But when you head outside, don't forget: your eyes need protection from the sun's rays just as much as your skin does! 👀

That's why the American Academy of Ophthalmology made July UV Safety Month! ⚠️ UV exposure can damage the surface of your eyes as well as your corneas and lenses. Cataracts, eye cancers, growths and even blindness can happen as a result.

Don't worry, you don't have to stay in the dark to protect yourself. Just pop on some sunglasses before you head outside! 😎 Here are some other tips to keep those peepers safe:

✅ Be sure to select sunglasses with a 100% UV rating. 🎩 Wear a wide-brimmed hat with your glasses for extra protection. ☁️ Stay protected even when it's hazy or cloudy, which doesn't block UV rays. 🕐 Stay out of the sun when it's strongest at midday-early afternoon. 🚫 Don't look directly at the sun! 🛑 Skip the tanning bed…it's just as bad as outdoor sunlight.

Happy 4th of July 🎆 from all of us at BestMed Urgent Care Corporate Offices! We hope your celebration of our nation's 250th Independence Day is meaningful and joyous. Whether you're headed out of town, hangin' in the backyard or joining in community festivities, here are some tips to ensure you have a safe holiday weekend:

💧 Drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen and seek out shade if you start to overheat.
🚫🚗🚤 Avoid alcohol or drink in moderation and never drive a car or boat while intoxicated.
👀 Designate a sober "water watcher" to keep an eye on your party near bodies of water.
🎇 Use only legal fireworks, follow directions on packaging, keep a hose and fire extinguisher nearby, and soak spent fireworks or duds in a bucket of water before throwing away. Be careful — it’s dry out there!
🔥🚫👶 Don't allow children near firepits or fireworks (even sparklers!).
🩹 Keep a first aid kit and cell phone nearby for emergencies.
🐾 Keep pets inside.

With a little preparation, you can prevent mishaps from interrupting your fun.
