Meet Nicole!

I’m Nicole Griffin, an audiologist with over 20 years of experience. Having worked in a variety of environments, from schools to private practice, I’ve found that my favorite part of the job remains the same: the people. I am passionate about helping patients of all ages improve their hearing, but even more so about the 'why' behind it, empowering people to stay connected to their loved ones and get the most out of life. I’m proud to bring that experience to our patients at Premiere Speech and Hearing.

In her free time as a military spouse, Nicole has lived and traveled extensively, experiences that have shaped her adaptability, cultural awareness, and deep appreciation for the diverse needs of the patients she serves.

Outside the clinic, she enjoys gardening, reading, and spending time with her husband and their four adult children. Her blend of clinical expertise, compassion, and life experience continues to guide her work and the meaningful relationships she builds with every patient.

A concern we hear from patients fairly often is how difficult group conversations can become over time.

We’ve had patients describe moments like sitting at a family dinner and realizing they’ve been smiling and nodding along, but not fully following the conversation. They’ll say it feels like they’re physically present, but not really part of what’s being said. 😟

That experience is more common than many people realize, and it can be frustrating, especially in settings where connection matters most!

In those cases, we talk through what group listening has been like day-to-day, then complete hearing testing and review how hearing loss can affect speech clarity, particularly in noisy environments. It’s often less about overall loudness and more about the brain’s ability to separate speech from background noise.

From there, we focus on strategies and treatment options to improve access to conversation in real-world settings.
And one of the most meaningful updates to hear is when someone says they’re catching parts of conversations again they used to miss… like finally hearing the humor in a family moment and reacting right along with everyone else!

As audiologists, we love when everyday technology helps people become more aware of their hearing.

One feature we hear about more often lately is the alerts by Smart Watches for high noise levels. Someone will mention getting a tap on their wrist in a busy restaurant or a sporting event and it catches them off guard!

“I didn’t realize it was that loud.”

Those moments are more helpful than they might seem.

Noise exposure isn’t always obvious in the moment, and it’s not just about sudden, extreme sounds. It’s also about how long you’re in those environments and how often your ears are working in higher noise levels.

The alert is a reminder to check in: Is this environment louder than I thought?

Do I need to step away, lower the volume, or use hearing protection?

Because hearing health isn’t just about addressing changes later, it’s also about protecting what you have now!

🌊☀️ Beach Day Fun at our Music Movement and Shared Book Reading Class with Ms. Nicole! 🏖️🎶

Today's beach-themed music class was filled with smiles, movement, and opportunities to build early language skills through play!

Our little learners:
🎵 Sang beach-themed songs to encourage vocabulary, imitation, and communication.
💦 Explored a water sensory bin, practicing descriptive language, turn-taking, requesting, and answering questions while engaging their senses.
🏐 Played Hot Potato with a beach ball, promoting listening skills, following directions, joint attention, and social interaction.

Every activity is thoughtfully designed by Ms. Nicole, our licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, to support early communication and language development in a fun, engaging environment.

Many people don’t realize their Apple AirPods include a feature that can make conversations and TV listening much easier. Live Listen allows your iPhone to act as a microphone, sending sound directly to your AirPods for clearer hearing in challenging environments. 🎧📱

And here’s a bonus tip: placing your phone closer to the sound source can make a noticeable difference!

While this feature does use more battery, it can be a helpful strategy when you need a quick boost in clarity. Even small adjustments like this can support better communication throughout your day!
