I am deeply honored to share that I have stepped into the role of Interim Board Chair for Linden Tree Montessori School !

As we prepare to open our doors in the Fall of 2026, our mission is to provide a high-quality, public Montessori education that fosters curiosity, independence, community care, and a lifelong love of learning for every student.

Opening a school from the ground up is no small feat, but the passion of this community is unmatched! I’m looking forward to working alongside our dedicated board, incredible teacher leaders, and families to turn this vision into a reality.

If people regularly come to you when they’re overwhelmed, stressed, or struggling, you’re most likely providing mental health support…whether you signed up for it or not.

The problem is that most of this type of care happens without training, without boundaries, and without support for the one providing support.

That’s why I created the Community Care Collective.

This isn’t therapy, nor are you being trained to be a therapist.
It’s a 4-week, practical training that helps everyday community leaders (like educators, business owners, faith leaders, mentors, and service professionals):
- recognize signs of distress
- respond without trying to fix everything
- know what to say and what not to say
- support others while protecting their own energy

Our next cohort starts in 4 weeks, and we’re filling the last 10 spots!

Growing up, society told us what emotions were acceptable and which one’s weren’t.

We were taught to hide anything outside of happiness and excitement to make sure others felt comfortable around us.

Our mothers learned that silence was a sign of strength even when they were overwhelmed and needed support.

Our fathers learned that anger was a sign of toughness even when they deserved to express sadness.

It takes years of work to unlearn the idea that emotions are a problem instead seeing them as information, and too many people are still sending this message to their kids and the people around them.

Somocom Lab is committed to something that should have always been true: emotions belong because people do. In homes. In schools. In workplaces. In communities. Our humanity deserves to be honored.

💛 November is Early Childhood Mental Health Awareness Month — a time to reflect on how we nurture not just our children’s development, but their emotional well-being too. As the holiday season approaches — a time filled with excitement, change, and sometimes stress — it’s important to remember that children often express big feelings through tears, not words.

When your child won’t stop crying, it can feel overwhelming. But beneath the tears is a message: “I need help feeling safe again.” Instead of trying to stop the crying, focus on calming the storm together. Sit with them, speak softly, and reassure them that their feelings are okay. Your calm presence teaches them how to regulate their emotions — one of the most powerful lessons you can give.

The holidays can heighten children’s emotions with new routines, visitors, and sensory overload. Responding with empathy rather than frustration helps them feel seen and understood, strengthening your bond and building emotional resilience. 💛

As the holiday season approaches, excitement and joy often come hand-in-hand with increased stress — especially for parents balancing work, family, and endless to-do lists. Today is National Stress Awareness Day which is the perfect reminder to pause and prioritize emotional self-care, both for ourselves and for our children.

Emotional self-care isn’t about perfection — it’s about being present. Maintaining healthy boundaries helps protect your energy and model balance for your children. Taking time to connect with your kids — through conversation, play, or shared quiet moments — builds emotional safety and strengthens your bond. Allowing yourself (and your children) to feel your feelings teaches that all emotions are valid and manageable. And something as simple as writing a gratitude list can shift focus from overwhelm to appreciation, creating moments of calm amid chaos.

This season, let’s remember: caring for our emotional well-being is not selfish — it’s essential. When parents practice emotional self-care, children learn to do the same. 🌿💫
