Medicine moves fast, and our mindset should too.

We’re always looking to adopt newer, smarter approaches—not just because the technology is exciting, but because our patients deserve care that is constantly evolving.

Whenever we can make an experience gentler, smoother, and better for the person in the chair, that’s a win.

In today's healthcare landscape, clinical excellence is only half the equation; ophthalmologists are increasingly required to think as a physician, surgeon, and a CEO. Patient care and outcomes will always be my #1 priority, but to deliver that standard of care, a practice must run efficiently, and our doctors and teams must feel supported and energized. 🚀

It’s exactly like the classic airplane safety instruction: you have to put on your own oxygen mask before you can effectively help others. A burnt-out clinical team—or worse, a non-existent one if a practice is forced to close because it cannot financially sustain itself—simply cannot provide the world-class care that patients deserve. 🛑

For the past 30 years, Ophthalmology Management has been a definitive source for the essential strategies, medical economics, and practice management pearls needed to help eye care practices flourish. 📈

I want to express my sincere gratitude to Chief Medical Editor Dr. Lisa Feulner, MD, PhD, for inviting me to join this esteemed board. It is a true privilege to collaborate under her guidance to deliver real-world tools that help fellow ophthalmologists succeed. 🤝

Looking forward to working alongside Dr. Feulner and a brilliant board of eye care leaders to help shape the next chapter of this publication as it celebrates three decades of impact! 🎉

I'm not LeBron, but… I'm staying home. In 2014, I made a trade to bring LeBron back to CLE in exchange for spending the summer in South Beach researching keratoconus (see photo for receipts)! Now, I have decided to keep my talents in Columbus. 👑

In an unexpected turn of events, I am THRILLED to officially announce that I'm joining the incredible team at — ReVision LASIK and Cataract Surgery right here in Columbus, Ohio. 🎉

ReVision is home to some of the most talented surgeons and team members in the field, a stunning state-of-the-art facility, an in-house ambulatory surgery center, AND a dedicated LASIK suite — all built around one mission: delivering an exceptional experience for every single patient.

They are always on the cutting edge of technology (pun very much intended 🔬), and I could not be more excited to be part of this team.

New chapter. New vision. Big things ahead. 👀✨

Stay tuned — some exciting announcements are coming that I can't wait to share.

Washington D.C. was a blur of high-level optics and the reality of life with a toddler. 🏛️👁️

One of the best parts of meetings like ASCRS is the constant exchange of knowledge and the chance to catch up with colleagues from across the country. One highlight was gaining valuable pearls from and on the future of multifocal optics and astigmatism management. I also had great informational meetings with the teams at and regarding some exciting advancements in ocular surface and surgical therapeutics. It’s all about staying sharp and bringing the latest tier of surgical precision back to my patients. It’s all about staying sharp and bringing the latest tier of surgical precision back to my patients.

A few other highlights from the District:

🥘 The Aftermath: I intended to take a "foodie" shot of our delicious Ethiopian food, but the Doro Wat and Beef Tibs didn’t stand a chance. Swipe to see the evidence of a very successful dinner.

⚽ The Turf Test: My son’s ambition officially outpaced his center of gravity this weekend. As the video shows, the ground came at him fast, but he’s already back on his feet and ready for the next "high-speed inspection" of the grass. 👨🏾‍🦲💨📉

Phenomenal weekend staying at the edge of the field, meeting new friends, catching up with old, and spending time with family. 🚀

(Now I need to work on remembering to take more pictures when I go to these events!)

Quick recap of the Outliers Ophthalmology meeting in Palm Springs: 🌴🧠

The desert hit above 100°F, but I’m happy to report my new look provides excellent thermal regulation (and zero wind resistance). 👨🏾‍🦲💨

Aside from the heat, it was a phenomenal session focused on disrupting the "ordinary" in eye care. A few key pearls from :

1️⃣ Focus on the Patient, not just the Procedure: Surgical precision is the baseline, but the ultimate "Outlier" practice is built on the patient journey at every single touchpoint.

2️⃣ Disrupting the Status Quo: No fluff, just high-level insights on moving away from corporate medical tropes and toward a high-quality, boutique outcome model.

3️⃣ The Power of the Pivot: Great brainstorming on "re-visioning" what modern refractive surgery looks like when you prioritize technology and individual care over volume.

It was a great weekend of learning and staying at the outlier of the field. Met some wonderful people in person, finally (s/o , .doc , and ).

Thanks to , , , , and all the other chairs for such a great program. 🚀

New head, who’s this? 🧑🏾‍🦲✨

I’ve spent the last few months cutting weight and, apparently, all my hair. Figured it was finally time to get some proof that I don’t actually look like my 2018 badge photo anymore.

Huge shoutout to the legend for the session. Getting "Katz’d" is basically a confidence-building masterclass and rite of passage in ophthalmology—she somehow made me look like I actually know what I'm doing. 10/10 recommend for any colleagues needing a glow-up.

Stay tuned - more updates (and probably more bald jokes) coming soon. 🚀
