# Marriage & Family Therapy in the Black Community

# # **Part 3: Beyond Divorce—Healing, Co-Parenting & Moving Forward**

During **Part 1** of our *Marriage & Family Therapy in the Black Community* series, I introduced what I call the **Billy Dee Williams Dilemma** and explored why marriage and family therapy is so important for Black couples and families.

During **Part 2**, I examined one of the most difficult questions many Black men face: **"Should I Stay or Should I Go?"** Together, and explored the issues that drive this decision through what we at Male Behavioral Health call **The Legacy Test**.

Now, join us for **Part 3: Beyond Divorce—Healing, Co-Parenting & Moving Forward.**

In this session, I'll discuss what life is like for Black men after separation and divorce—a season I refer to as **The New Reconstruction**. Men don't just need legal advice after divorce. They need a roadmap for moving forward—a process for healing, rebuilding, and creating a meaningful future. That's what this conversation is all about.

My co-facilitator, **Dr. Angela Price**, will offer a unique perspective on what this journey looks like for Black women, with a special focus on healing, co-parenting, and the impact of divorce on children.

# # # Join us as we explore:

❤️ Healing from grief, loss, and emotional pain
👨🏾‍👧 Building healthy, low-conflict co-parenting relationships
🧒 Helping children thrive after separation and divorce
🧠 Protecting your mental health and emotional well-being
🌱 Rebuilding your identity and moving forward with confidence

Whether you're recently divorced, years removed from the process, considering separation, or supporting someone who is, you'll leave with practical tools, expert guidance, and renewed hope.

📅 **Thursday, June 25, 2026**
🕖 **7:00–9:00 PM**

Male Behavioral HealthSHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I LEAVE? What Every Black Couple Needs to Know About Separation & Divorce

Last night, I discussed three of the most important areas in Black men's relationships:

• Relationship Goals
• Family and Parenting Goals
• Sexual Integrity Goals

More importantly, I discussed what all men—but especially Black men—need to feel and what they need to believe in order to build and sustain healthy relationships.

Tonight, I will tackle one of the most difficult and life-altering decisions a man will ever make:

Should I stay, or should I leave?

While most divorces are initiated by women, many people fail to recognize that by the time divorce happens, many men have already made their decision internally and have been wrestling with that decision for months—or even years.

Tonight, I will discuss what Black men experience during separation and divorce, including the emotional, financial, parenting, and relational challenges that often accompany the process. I will also explore the mistakes men commonly make, the regrets they carry, and the realities they wish they had understood sooner.

At the same time, my co-facilitator will discuss what Black women experience during divorce, helping us better understand both sides of one of the most challenging transitions a family can face.

These conversations are for:

• People considering divorce
• People currently going through divorce
• Divorced individuals trying to rebuild
• Couples seeking to better understand each other
• Therapists, clergy, and community leaders
• Anyone who wants to better understand the realities facing Black families

Male Behavioral HealthTONIGHT!!
PART 1: Before Divorce:

Building & Sustaining Healthy Relationships

Why This Session Matters:

Many relationships don’t fail because of lack of love—but because of lack of skills. Research shows that poor communication and unresolved conflict are among the top predictors of relationship dissatisfaction and separation. Early intervention through therapy-based skills can significantly improve relationship outcomes.
