Keeping children safe goes beyond CPR and First Aid. It also means knowing how to recognize when a child may need help, and yesterday we had the opportunity to ensure the team at New Beginnings Preschool has the knowledge to recognize that through Initial Child Abuse Prevention Training.

This training is designed for childcare professionals who are completing the course for the first time. It recognizes potential signs of child abuse and neglect, understanding reporting responsibilities, and knowing how to respond appropriately when concerns arise. We also offer a shorter recertification course for professionals who have previously completed their initial training and need to renew.

This is why knowing life-saving skills matters! ❤️

An officer with the West Jefferson Police Department recently helped save a choking infant using the same techniques we teach in our training courses. This story hits especially close to home, happening in Madison County, where our co-owner Tara is from.

A powerful reminder that the right training can make all the difference when every second counts!

🚨 WHEN SECONDS COUNT, TRAINING KICKS IN!

Today, our Officers were dispatched to a residence for a choking infant. At the time of the call, two neighboring medic units were already committed to other runs, with a third medic unit responding from London.

Multiple West Jefferson officers, lieutenants and detectives responded and arrived within minutes. Training immediately went into action.

Officer Jeremy Ward positioned the infant facedown and delivered distinct back thumps with the heel of his hand between the infant’s shoulder blades. Moments later, the infant began to cry as the airway cleared. ❤️

Officers continued to console the family. Medics arrived shortly afterward, and the infant was transported for further medical care.

We are incredibly proud of our officers and the way they answered the call when their community needed them most. This is what training, teamwork, and dedication to service look like.

To the men and women of WJPD, thank you for being ready, prepared, and willing to step forward when every second counts. 👮‍♂️💙

We’re opening our doors, cheering on the runners, and celebrating our new space! 🎉

Join us on Sunday, October 18th, from 8 AM-12 PM for our Meeting House Welcome & Marathon Watch Party! We’re so excited to welcome our community into our new meeting house and give you a chance to see the space where we'll be hosting our reviews moving forward!

The South High Marching Band will be bringing the music, and the Community Grounds: Trolley Café & Mercantile will be onsite serving up your favorites! Bring a chair, grab something delicious, and settle in to cheer on the marathon runners as they make their way through the neighborhood.
