This wasn't planned. I started stretching his hind leg, and he took over and continued the stretch on his own.

Moments like this are one of my favorite parts of this work. When a horse feels safe and comfortable, they'll often participate rather than just tolerate what's happening.

It's also a great sign that the movement felt good to him, not forced.

Equine massage is not a substitute for veterinary care. In accordance with Texas guidelines, horses should be evaluated and cleared by a veterinarian prior to beginning massage therapy services.

3 signs your horse is carrying tension 🐴

Horses are stoic by nature. They don't always show discomfort the way we'd expect. Often, the first signs show up subtly: resistance under saddle, uneven muscle tone, head tossing, or girthiness.

These aren't just "attitude" or bad behavior. They're often the body's way of telling you something before it becomes a bigger issue.

That’s not just a yawn… that’s some pretty good feedback. 👀🐴

Yawning, licking and chewing, lowering the head, and other signs ofrelease and relaxation can happen during massage as a horse settles into the session.

Every horse communicates a little differently, and I love getting to watch them tell me what they’re feeling. ❤️

Ultimate relaxation mode: ACTIVATED! 😴 This sweet senior gentleman is Jackson. He absolutely loves his massage days. When I'm working on him, he completely let's go of all his tension and get so relaxed he could fall fast asleep. There isn't a technique he doesn't enjoy!

For our senior horses, regular body work isn't just a luxury, it's an incredible tool to keep their aging joints comfortable, improve circulation, and help them maintain their mobility so they can enjoy their retirement years to the fullest. Seeing a sweet senior horse completely unwind makes this the best job in the world. ❤️
