UI ARC is a multi-disciplinary unit within the Department of Psychiatry that seeks to help individuals with substance use disorders on their recovery journey.

We were blown away by Des Moines' Recovery Festival this weekend, hosted by Kingdom Living and RISE Recovery Center. 🎇

Thousands of people passed through, listening to live music, engaging with the INTO LIGHT portraits, and sharing in the camaraderie of a space dedicated to life, love, and recovery.

Hopefully the first of many, UI ARC's first collaboration with Prairie Lights Books was a success. 🤩

Author Meghan O'Gieblyn, author of "God, Human, Animal, Machine," "Interior States," and now, "Will and Attention," celebrated the release of the latter at Iowa City's locally-loved and world-renowned bookstore. Dr. Alison Lynch, Director of UI ARC and awarded addiction medicine specialist, spoke with O'Gieblyn about sobriety, the writing process, and the overlap in O'Gieblyn's journey between religion and substance use.

A thought-provoking read that is at once intellectual and moving, philosophical and personal, "Will and Attention" highlights the overlap of humanities and addiction that UI ARC strives to support. Thank you, Meghan, for sharing your memoir and your time with us!

This weekend, the Englert Theatre hosted UI ARC's Second Annual INTO LIGHT Benefit Concert, bringing together local artists, substance use care providers, and community members for a beautiful afternoon of strength and compassion. 💜

Local artists Dave Zollo, Red Danielson, Hard Luck and the Troubles, Dave Moore, and Surf Zombies played alongside spoken word performers Spencer Paige and Tiffany Lewis. Each artist brough their own touch to the celebratory event, with the mood picking up throughout and culminating in a high-energy set by Surf Zombies!

Thank you to the Englert for their time and support, and to Ann Aschoff for organizing this event! We hope this community concert can grow over the coming years.
