Live in Iowa City? Need an excuse to get a cold beverage and a delicious meal? Come support a great cause at Quinton's Bar & Deli downtown at the end of this month! ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿป

From 4:00-10:00 PM, 15% of all sales will be donated to UI ARC's funding to continue breaking stigma and attending awareness events, including upkeep of the INTO LIGHT Continuing the Conversation exhibit.

We know money is tight, but Quinton's Wednesday deals range from food to drinks to student discounts. ๐Ÿ’ธ And it would mean the world to us if you could support.

Bring friends, bring family, have a drink or mocktail (or two!), and celebrate recovery and addiction awareness at Quinton's next to the Englert Theatre, where our Annual Benefit Concert will be hosted the following Sunday. ๐ŸŽถ

The Into Light Project art exhibit will be on display in the lobby and the upstairs gallery (https://intolightproject.org/). The Into Light Project highlights the lives of 34 individuals who died of overdose in Iowa. It includes graphite portraits with individual written narratives describing the impact of the disease in their lives, and the love and commitment of those who cared for them.

Please join us on the 11th to celebrate recovery and break the stigma! We are so excited and grateful to partner with The Englert Theatre on this venture. Link to Englert site coming soon ๐Ÿ”—

Upcoming films related to addiction and substance use, playing at your local theater. ๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿฟ

Part of de-stigmatizing addiction is portraying people who use drugs in a way that is realistic, human, and kind. These are films showing soon at FilmScene with plot lines or characters related to substance use, and they do the subject justice. The only exception is "The Misfits," which was included because nearly all of the main cast was dealing with different forms of addiction at the time of filming.

Thank you for supporting local and celebrating recovery this Overdose Awareness Month! For more information, visit icfilmscene.org ๐ŸŽฅ

Congratulations to Drs. Andrea Weber and Ben Miskle and Project Coordinator Sarah Murray on another successful year of the RISE-IA grant, focused on educating the next generation of healthcare providers on addiction medicine. ๐ŸŽ“

The curriculum's feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and the team is now working alongside UI's Office of Consultation and Research in Medical Education to create a virtual, asynchronous version of the curriculum that has contributed to the education of over 300 future providers in the last year.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's International Overdose Awareness Month event at FilmScene, sponsored by Community & Family Resources and supported by many Johnson County addiction care stakeholders, including UI ARC.

TODAY'S THE DAY! Iowa City's annual International Overdose Awareness Day event will be hosted at FilmScene at The Chauncey TONIGHT at 6:30 PM.

The film shown this year will be Remake (2015), a documentary which The New Yorker refers to as "an anguished reflection on the life and death of [director McElwee's] son, Adrian, who was a frequent subject of his films." Heavy, honest, and beautifully crafted, "Remake" is for lovers of filmmaking and lovers of people who struggle with addiction.

Free popcorn will be provided, and a panel discussion will be hosted after the film about the realities of substance use and lived experience.

Last year's event was a tremendous success, and we are so grateful to FilmScene for hosting us again!

Thank you to University of Iowa Health Care for spotlighting this important development in addiction medicine for Iowans.

University of Iowa Health Careโ€™s MAT (Medication for Addiction Treatment) Mobile Clinic is helping Iowans access life-saving treatment while also training local providers to continue the work long after the van drives away.

Incredibly proud of the work our outreach team did at ๐ŸŽถ

Nearly 1,800 naloxone kits were dispersed throughout the festival grounds, and we had amazing conversation with countless Iowans on the importance of carrying naloxone. ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Jasmine, who attended Hinterland last year, encountered someone suffering from an overdose at her workplace the Monday after the festival and saved their life with naloxone from UI ARC. She came by to say hello to the team this year, and it was a beautiful reminder of the real-world impact that outreach and destigmatization have.

So many attendees commented on how proud they were to be a Hawkeye, and how wonderful it is that the university sponsors naloxone handout. We are proud to be a division that thinks about substance use in a comprehensive and compassionate manner, in and outside of the clinic. It takes real action to make Iowa a safer place for all Iowans, and we look forward to continuing this work year after year. ๐Ÿ’›

Thank you to Hinterland for hosting us once again. What a wonderful atmosphere to be a part of, and we can't wait for years to come!
