St. Luke's Meridian has let go of the Certified Nurse Midwives; they will no longer be attending births or taking OB clients after September.
Yes, they are still currently taking new clients due after September but those families will be passed off, unbeknownst to them, to an OB.
Imagine spending 9 months with these amazing Midwives to admit to the hospital in labor and finding out they won't be there with you to birth your baby
The Midwives are not allowed to tell their patients they are getting fired, and St. Luke's is forcing them to lie, which goes against the Midwifery Model of Care. This is more than heartbreaking, it is wrong on so many levels.
Shame on the St. Luke's System for taking away an entire model of care that matters, and LYING to their patients. The narrative the hospital is choosing to spin is unethical. The people who hold the power continue to make choices that don't support what the community wants.

Grateful for physicians like Dr. Stu who trust birth, honor physiology, and believe in the vital role of community midwives. This weekend we were taught how to safely support breech birth—a skill that should never have been lost.

Breech is a variation of normal, not an automatic emergency. When providers are taught these skills, it expands options, autonomy, and safety for women and their babies.

It’s time to bring this knowledge back. For our communities. For our clients. For the next generation of providers. 🤍

I'm also incredibly grateful for the amazing women who are my mentors.
