Recently, our team partnered with Trinity Hospice to provide additional education to the dietary department at The Lodge at Old Trail.
The presentation focused on the unique challenges residents with speech and swallowing complications may experience, as well as the impact dementia can have on nutrition and mealtimes.
We discussed textured diets, including pureed and mechanical soft, along with the many changes that can accompany dementia. Such as alterations in taste, vision, perception, and the ability to recognize or interact with food.
Understanding these challenges allows care teams to approach mealtimes with greater patience, compassion, and intention. Small adjustments in how food is presented or how we engage with a resident can make a meaningful difference in their ability and willingness to eat, ultimately supporting proper nutrition, hydration, and overall well-being.
We are grateful for opportunities to collaborate with incredible organizations like Trinity Hospice and The Lodge at Old Trail to provide meaningful education that strengthens our collective ability to understand, support, and care for the residents who call these communities home.
When we learn together, we care better together. 🤍
