Labor Day weekend marks the end of the traditional summer season for many aquatic professionals across North America.
After months of long days, staffing challenges, rescues, medical emergencies, patron conflicts, near misses, and the everyday responsibility of keeping people safe, the pace is finally beginning to change. Sometimes it isn’t until the season ends that you realize just how much you’ve been carrying.
As outdoor pools close, beaches quiet down, and seasonal teams move on, take time to check in with yourself and the people you worked alongside this summer. Talk about the hard calls. Reach out to the coworker who had a difficult incident. Make space to process the season instead of simply moving on to whatever comes next.
Aquatic professionals spend all summer taking care of others. As another summer season comes to a close across North America, remember to take care of yourselves and each other, too.
From all of us at ILCIRA, thank you for another summer of keeping your communities safe.
