Imagine handing someone else the keys to your confidence, your worth, and how you see yourself.

For many people, that's exactly what unresolved trauma can feel like.

Past experiences begin influencing how we show up, what we believe we deserve, and even the opportunities we're willing to take.

But your past doesn't have to be in charge of your future.

You can acknowledge what happened without allowing it to define who you are.

What would taking back control of your confidence look like for you?

Trauma can convince you that you're not good enough, that you're difficult to love, or that you'll never be the person you once were.

And sometimes, you've believed those thoughts for so long that they don't even feel like thoughts anymore. They feel like facts.

But what if some of the things you believe about yourself aren't actually true?

What if they're beliefs shaped by what you've experienced?

Healing begins when we learn to question those beliefs instead of automatically accepting them.

What's one thing you've had to unlearn about yourself?
Let’s talk about it!

Not every uncomfortable feeling needs a response.

That can be hard to remember when everything in you wants to fix it, explain it, text about it, get reassurance, or make the discomfort disappear.

Sometimes self-governance looks like sitting with the feeling long enough to ask:

What am I feeling?
What am I afraid this means?
Does this actually require action, or am I looking for someone else to make me feel okay?

Discomfort isn’t always a sign that something is wrong. And it doesn’t always require an immediate reaction.

The more we learn to sit with our emotions, understand them, and regulate ourselves through them, the less dependent we become on outside validation to bring us back to peace.

So today, before you react, ask yourself:

Does this need a response… or does it just need a moment?

👇 Let’s be honest in the comments: When you’re uncomfortable, what’s your first instinct?

A. Fix it
B. Explain yourself
C. Ask for reassurance
D. Shut down
E. Sit with it

No wrong answers.
Just an opportunity to notice our patterns. 💚

Are you asking for advice… or are you asking for permission? 👀

There’s a difference.

Advice says, “I value your perspective.”
Permission says, “I need your approval before I can trust my own decision.”

As we continue talking about self-governance, this is a big one.

DONT COME TO A CONSENSUS, COME TO YOUR SENSES🚨‼️

There is nothing wrong with asking people we trust for wisdom, support, or another perspective. But when we find ourselves asking person after person what they think, sometimes it’s worth asking ourselves why.

Do I genuinely need guidance?

Or do I already know what I want to do, but I’m afraid to trust myself without someone else agreeing?

Building self-trust doesn’t mean you stop listening to others. It means their voice doesn’t become louder than your own. 💚

Are you more likely to ask for advice or catch yourself looking for permission?

What if they never understand you?

That question can feel heavier than it should.

So much of our energy can be spent explaining ourselves, defending our decisions, or trying to get someone else to see things from our perspective.

But part of learning to govern ourselves is accepting that not everyone will understand us.

And they don't have to.

You can listen to someone else's perspective without abandoning your own. You can allow someone to disagree without immediately questioning yourself. You can be misunderstood and still trust the work you've done within yourself.

This is where self-governance begins:

Learning to trust yourself, even when someone else doesn't understand you. 💚

We talk a lot about wanting to feel “like ourselves again.”

But after hard seasons, healing doesn’t always take us backward.

Sometimes you’ve learned too much.
Sometimes your needs have changed.
Sometimes your boundaries are stronger.
Sometimes the person emerging doesn’t fit into the life the old you tolerated.

Maybe you don’t need to find your way back.

Maybe you’re finding your way forward. 💚✨

And that version of you deserves to be met with curiosity, not comparison.

What’s something you appreciate about the person you’re becoming?

Allow me to share my journal with you.
Maybe someone else feels blue. It’s ok. 💙

Journal prompt:

What color do you feel like today?

Blue. I need to land in the blue today. Blue because there is a sadness that’s winning the war today. Blue, because I feel softer today.

Blue, because that feels safe today.

Blue.

I am sitting in a little swanky, dimly lit cafe alone in Tulsa, I have a pressed linen cloth napkin laying across my lap, it’s powder blue with faint white lines.

As I sat the napkin across my lap, I noticed my legs are too big today. I do this often, this picking and nagging at my body. I try to remind myself that they carry me always, whether I feel they are too large, too lumpy, or just right, they stay kind to me and my judgments. They continue to carry me, never judging me back. How kind of them, I wish I could be as kind to me as they are.

There are two men sitting across from me, seemingly having an important conversation about work, or at least I’d assume, by the blue three piece suits. I’m curious about the conversation. I stay curious.

I’m blue today. Blue in a perfect blue cloudless kind of way and also in a blue sad, rainy day way. I’m learning I can contain both, blue happy, and blue sad. I can be both. 💙

Someone else’s disappointment. Their expectations. Their mood. Their reaction to your boundaries.

We can get so used to carrying things for other people that we forget to ask whether they were ever ours to begin with.

This week, notice what feels heavy. Then get curious about why you’re carrying it. 🌿

You can care deeply about someone without taking responsibility for everything they feel.

What could you put down this week?
