On Saturday, Mountain Top Jeepers hosted an event at Taco Mac Gainesville. During the event, they hosted raffles and giveaways, and The Wellness Armory presented a little on who we are and how we support veterans and first responders.

Mountain Top Jeepers announced The Wellness Armory as their charity of choice for the upcoming Jeep Summit in March!!!! We are so thrilled and excited for this incredible opportunity!

Also, we took votes on the name for our mascot.
The contending names were Bones, Skully, and Ruckus.

The name with the most votes was Skully! Be on the look out for Skully on upcoming merch, the bi-weekly Sit Rep, and event announcements!

Why The Wellness Armory?

A question I’ve been asked a few times and continually struggle to articulate the answer to.

Heres what I have so far:

I know first hand how difficult experiences can impact the way we relate to the world around us. Sometimes certain experiences can leave you feeling like everything you’ve known becomes distant and unfamiliar. I know how it feels to be lost in your own mind and feel like you’re alone in a room full of people.

I lived it, and then I watched my husband, my rock, my person, my best friend, become a stranger to me and even to himself once he got out of the army. I watched the VA fail him, I watched as his friends fade into the background, and I watched him treading water helplessly as he tried to figure out how to navigate life when his identity and purpose was suddenly out of reach.

Of all the things I did see… what stood out the most was what I did NOT see.
I didn’t see a place where he could find sanctuary, help, rest, camaraderie, peace, hope, and guidance.
There was no lighthouse in sight while we were stranded in the ocean.
There were some metaphorical rescue boats from time to time offering some assistance here and there. But what we needed was the lighthouse. (More to come on that analogy later)
Later on, I obtained jobs with veteran service orgs that even claimed to send out these rescue boats to vets in need. Yet, still I watched while veteran after veteran would slip through the cracks, including friends that we knew and loved.

So… we sought to become that lighthouse in hopes to help others find their way out of the depths of that darkness. We are not where we want to be as an organization, yet. However, we are actively shining our light and helping as many as we can, as much as we can, while we are still working to build this thing taller so our light can reach a little further.

Our goal is not to stand alone but to become a part of a network of lighthouse-type organizations so that any veteran or first responder that come through our network is never left stranded with a need that can’t be met or figured out.

If you’re a veteran or first responder looking for the light… consider this it and reach out.

Feel like your brain has 100 tabs open and you’re going through your day at 1,000 thoughts per minute?

Or do you have the nervous system of someone being hunted for sport when you’re just out to dinner with your family?

Maybe you’re sitting at the dinner table but feel like you’re 74489536 miles away still?

Reach out to us. We can go for a walk and sort through what’s going on. We can throw a ball while we process it.

Therapy … but make it practical and accessible, not sterile and out of reach.
